Is anyone having problems with losing weight and well just basically sticking to being good and eating healthy etc. I am struggling so much and was just wondering if anyone can offer support etc? haha x

Hi. Can you give us an idea of what you typically eat 'healthily'? The so-called healthy diet we have been told to follow over the years by the experts is not healthy for diabetics. Low-carbing is essential if you want to get weight and hence blood sugar down. If you can give us some idea of your typical meals perhaps we can comment

I would love to help if low carbing worked for me in losing weight, it makes no difference. It doesn't make a whole heap of difference on my BS either. Eating high carb would have a more detrimental effect though.
Good luck.

Yeah I guess that would help lol!

Erm: Breakfast: Porridge with Raisins

Snack: sometimes a belvita bar thing!

Lunch: Chicken or ham sandwich and either a muller yoghurt and fruit!

Dinner: Tends to vary really!

I would love to try the low carb thing but I know I would find it soooo difficult! As I dont particularly like salads :/ (typical 19 year old I guess) ha!

And also I guess being depressed doesn't help either because I just would rather eat if that makes sense!

Seems a lot of carbs Nicola. I know you are T1 so can compensate. How much weight do you have/want to lose?

Is it? I just always assume that's normal if that makes sense I dont know lol!

And I am 5 ft 11 and weigh about 13 stone but get told I carry it well! and ideally I want to be atleast 10st again or even 11st!

Probably impossible though.....I have sciatica too :(

Have you read or can buy Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution? Its an excellent read particularly for T1's. He explains about carbs and reducing insulin far better than I can, he's a T1 diabetic. He also has a website. worth a read.

I pretty much know about carbs and reducing insulin etc because I am on the pump! It's not eaten them that I have a problem with ha! :/

I guess I can have a look! Thank you! I just know that I won't stick to it :(

My guess would be, if you can decrease the amount of carbs you're eating in total (so have one meal a day low-carb instead of high-carb), it should help with weight loss - it's just going to be slower.
With your example meals, the dinner you're eating could be low carb - maybe not a salad, but a steak with grilled veggies is low-carb (just an example, not everyone likes steaks :D)!

How about my lunch lol couldn't I change that??? Because I don't cook my dinner my parent's do!

You're not sounding committed there Nicola.

There is little point asking for help losing weight, then say I wouldn't stick with this or that. Sadly, there is no way I know of to lose weight by continuing to do all the things one did to gain the weight in the first place. If weight loss was easy, nobody would carry any poundage.

Whilst I have no doubt you would like to lose weight, this isn't the first time I have noticed you asking for ideas. But, until you can actually commit to doing something, we can suggest until we're blue in the face, or have worn away fingertips, it won't make a blind bit of difference. The hard fact is, that until you change what is maintaining your weight at its present level; be it by calorie counting, or changing the composition of what you eat, and probably add in some exercise, your weight is unlikely to change.

Sorry. But, that's it in a nutshell.

Is there an emoticon for "bad cop", as that seems to be where I am in the forum dynamic, at present.

Lol yeah it's my fault I know. I can't add in the exercise though without being in excrutiating pain! I have found the post in the Low Carb Forum The newbies guide! I am going to print that out and give it a go! Sorry though!

Also I know I do go on about this alot but I really do want to start taking this seriously now!

Would keeping a food diary help???

Great I would try and do that then ahah!

I need ideas with lunch at work though because it is kind of tricky as we are only really allowed to use the microwave here :S
Same issue here :)

I like a chili-like meal: basically minced meat with kidney beans and sweetcorn and some chili/fajita spice - it tastes good and doesn't have much carbs. Easy to re-heat in microwave and doesn't taste awful (like most stuff from microwave...).

Ah I never thought of something like that! Basically chilli con carne without the rice???
