We had an amazing success story sent in to us by one of our followers on Twitter and thought it was too amazing not to share!
On July 6 2011 I was rushed into hospital with an infection called necrotising fasciitis better known as the flesh eating bug. I was in a coma for 12 days and had four lifesaving operations in the first week, not only to save my life but also my right leg and due to a fantastic medical team they was able to save both.
I spent two months in intensive care due to all my organs shutting down as my body had gone into toxic shock. All together I was in hospital for three months. Then all the hard work started, as I had limited mobility, my weight rose dramatically. I went from 20stone to 31.4 stone in three years and my diabetes was out of control. I was on Victoza 1.8 mg, Gliclazide 120mls, Metformin 2000mg, Atorvastatin 10mg and my sugar levels were still in the late 20’s and early 30’s. I was rushed into hospital twice as they thought my ketones were off the scale. Then my local doctors told me about weight loss surgery.
So in January I had the weight loss operation and had a bypass done so and since then I have lost a total of 12 stone 2 lbs and the only tablet I now take is one metformin of 500m a day and now my sugar levels are always between 4-7. I used to have a body mass of 63 and now it’s 39. My local nurse is now looking at taking me off tablets and just controlling it by diet.
