Be careful of the plenty of fruit during the day, most fruits have a lot of carbs and many of us find it raises our BG more than we like.If not, what alternatives are there that don't involve either any prep or fruit (as he has plenty during the day).
Some slices of cooked meat, leftover sausages, a chicken leg would all be low carb - but scrambled eggs with cheese is a two minute prep time. Thanks all. He doesnt have time for tea/coffee, literally bathroom, downstairs, weetabix while getting stuff into his bag & out the door!
So, whatever the alternative would be needs to be prepped & eaten within less than 5 mins or prepped the night before.
I've ordered a tester to see what weetabix does to his blood glucose, will test it at the weekend.
Daisy, you could cook 2 boiled eggs hard, high meat % sausage. Or get a thermos flask like container, think there are some to make porridge, yes I know carbs, but I also put in my porridge a scoop of mixed seeds, chia, poppy, sesame and chopped pumpkin and sunflower. I buy mackerel fillets from supermarket, already cooked. W’rose have pepper ones and smoked. Admittedly I have 1/2 slice of ‘my home baked’ toasted breadHi,
My husband has type 2 and we are trying to follow a low carb diet.
He starts work early in the morning and has very little time to have breakfast before he leaves the house, so cooking eggs, etc is not an option.
Currently he has 2 weetabix with full fat milk. Is this ok? If not, what alternatives are there that don't involve either any prep or fruit (as he has plenty during the day).
Thanks.
I microwave scrambled eggs, fine art, short bursts of powerSome slices of cooked meat, leftover sausages, a chicken leg would all be low carb - but scrambled eggs with cheese is a two minute prep time.
Maybe setting the alarm clock a few minutes earlier would make all the difference. I always allow myself time to eat in a relaxed manner and have coffee with cream as it sets me up for the day, and I ensure I get a good nights sleep if I am to go out - though these days I do sleep so much better than before diagnosis.
I calculated a few days ago that two weetabix plus 200ml milk (any kind) works out at around 30-35g carbs. The weetabix is about threequarters of that total.Hi,

My preferred breakfast is full fat Greek yoghurt, with or without a few berries or stewed rhubarb (stewed with a little sweetener), but I’m away from home and it is very hard to find unsweetened yoghurts of any kind. Thanks all. At 67 grams of carbs per 100 gr this is not low carb at all, it's about the same as Weetabix.I read that shredded wheat by Nestlé is a good alternative (fibre 12.5 g) no sugar
In the UK the carbs which are fibre are listed separately to the carbs that are not. You are right that in a 100g there are 12.5g of fibrous carbs that will pass right through.I read that shredded wheat by Nestlé is a good alternative (fibre 12.5 g) no sugar
I do this as well. I don't do the short bursts of power so that's a good hint but they turn out ok and it's quick. I also microwave bacon between two bits of kitchen paper. Weetabix spike me and since I weigh my milk when I do have them the scrambled eggs can be done just about as quicklyI microwave scrambled eggs, fine art, short bursts of power
Okay thanksAt 67 grams of carbs per 100 gr this is not low carb at all, it's about the same as Weetabix.
Thanks didn't know that.I'm also looking for a low carb cerealIn the UK the carbs which are fibre are listed separately to the carbs that are not. You are right that in a 100g there are 12.5g of fibrous carbs that will pass right through.
But there are 66.7g of carbs that will turn to glucose once digested, so a 45g serving would be 30g of carbs or the equivalent of 6 to 8 teaspoons of sugar
