Hi Suffolkboi
I think that there will always be this kind of story circulating as it makes people curious and concerned and, by keeping them buying, it maintains the circulation numbers.
Once again I think that the media has excelled in talking up a story out of nothing! This does seem a pretty weird piece of research given the strange ratio of food stuffs used. No-one I know would eat in those ratios or proportions so feeding those diets in an experiment on genetically engineered mice hardly seems relevant to humans. Personally, I don’t know anyone who has been genetically engineered and/or made to eat a particular diet anyway!
Most of us who are trying to take control of our health know that it is necessary to strike a balance and to try an item of food and test to see what it is doing to your BG levels. There are also plenty of professional checks that can be done to monitor what your exercise and food intake is doing to your body and your health and so long as there is “moderation in all things” I, for one, will be quite confident in my health getting better all the time that I am looking after myself.
So I suppose we just need to keep a sense of proportion, be sceptical of eating anything regularly without testing, ensure that you exercise to keep your body in good shape and ensure all the health checks are done regularly - and avoid scare stories promulgating red herrings. It could be worry that kills you otherwise!
