Low carb Diets?

Hi suffolkboi61
This has been extensively covered before I think it was in the discussions forum.

Hi Suffolk
that mouse study is very "iffy" I went to the original paper and the mice were spcially selected ApO mice, which are designed to form arterial plaques, which rodents don't do normally and then fed a totally non-mouse diet. I challenged the researcher on it and all he did was tell me I didn't understand his paper. When I told him my own qualifications, I got no further answer.
We are not mice and don't have rodent physiology, so although some modelling of Mouse to Man is useful. This isn't.
As for his being qualified to lead a team, it's not unknown for scientists to extrapolate their results to conclusions which support their own prejudices and don't quite stand up on the evidence.

this article gives both sides of the controversy including what the researchers did, what they suggest the found , why they used those mice and why some people don't consider the research valid, it also has links to the original research

Hana.
Just so that all our interested members on the Forum new and old can know, what exactly are your qualifications and when did you obtain them ? I am sure many would lke to know as you mention them often when challenging Scientific matters.

An interesting observation......would that be ALL Scientists Hana......?

Hi Suffolkboi

I think that there will always be this kind of story circulating as it makes people curious and concerned and, by keeping them buying, it maintains the circulation numbers.

Once again I think that the media has excelled in talking up a story out of nothing! This does seem a pretty weird piece of research given the strange ratio of food stuffs used. No-one I know would eat in those ratios or proportions so feeding those diets in an experiment on genetically engineered mice hardly seems relevant to humans. Personally, I don’t know anyone who has been genetically engineered and/or made to eat a particular diet anyway!

Most of us who are trying to take control of our health know that it is necessary to strike a balance and to try an item of food and test to see what it is doing to your BG levels. There are also plenty of professional checks that can be done to monitor what your exercise and food intake is doing to your body and your health and so long as there is “moderation in all things” I, for one, will be quite confident in my health getting better all the time that I am looking after myself.

So I suppose we just need to keep a sense of proportion, be sceptical of eating anything regularly without testing, ensure that you exercise to keep your body in good shape and ensure all the health checks are done regularly - and avoid scare stories promulgating red herrings. It could be worry that kills you otherwise!

So as usual headlines are no lines of interest :)
Am happier though as going low carb I have lost another stone and am down to 16, 3 and a half more to go and am back to my old Army boxing weight :D

Well done you, that is terrific and no doubt you feel lots better too. Look forward to hearing how it all progresses so keep well and stay happy! :D
