Low carb food list from Tesco - budget £15

Is this an appropriate low carb shopping list from Tescos:

I have found that most food items specifically marked as Low Fat or Reduced Fat are higher priced than the regular/value line items. Unless you are specifically cutting down on fats why not aim for standard items.
Being that I lean towards low carbing my fat intake would be deemed on the highish side and my weight has not increased coz its the carbs wot duzzit... :angel:

PS have you actually tried Tesco value tea bags? Bleargh!! :thumbdown:
 
I would also add that a lot of low fat products contain more sugar to balance out the taste that is lost when the fat is removed.

As for tea bags,I find the 'Diplomat Gold' brand from Aldi decent and at a good price. :thumbup:
 
I would avoid the cheapest cuts of meat if you can in particular "valued sausages which uses the offcuts of a pig that nobody uses, nose, trotters, lips, other unmentionables, "value" burgers is more soya than meat, chopped reformed ham is basically pig left overs that is chopped boiled and congealed into a block and cut as required.

Preferably buy prime sausages with quality cuts in them,
Ham on or off the bones which you can as "proper"
Burgers is probably not so important, you can get prime ground meat or minced meat and make them into a patty yourself.
 
What is the actual carb values of these ? Normal cream crackers for instance are about 60g per100g the Tesco ones may be low fat but are they really low carb

I would class Muesli as slightly high carb.

Lower carb fruit like raspberries?

No milk on the list for your cereal or tea.

Great idea to plan ahead! I wish I could do it!

Quite often "Low Fat" equates to "High Carbohydrate" with "Reduced Fat" equating to "Increased Carbohydrate".

You'd need to check the labels for "Total carbohydrate per 100g" which equates to a percentage. No way are are cream crackers or
muesli going to be "low carb". Doubt if "Tesco Everyday Value Butterly" qualifies as "fresh food" either.

Cheap sausages can also be padded with wheat and other high GI cereal products.

That's also something to look out for with breaded products, the cheaper products may have more coating. That would be the "Cod Fish Cakes" and possibly "Vegetable Grills".

Then discovering some of the stuff is even worst than you though it might be. e.g. the "Cod Fish Cakes" which contain more potato than fish.
Try a Lidl or an Aldi instead of Tescos.

I'm afraid this is a very old thread. You would do better to start a new thread, and will probably get lots of responses if you do.

I see that @zand has beaten me to it with the Low Carb food lists, but they are brilliant, so well worth clicking that link.

Also, click the Low Carb in 60 seconds link at the bottom of my signature. It will take you to a brilliant website that gives masses of information on changing your diet to something more suitable for a type 2 diabetic. :)
