i have been on a LCHF diet for about 6 weeks.i have eaten the same & keeped my carbs down to 20g per day but i have only lost about 7 lbs in weight.i lost weight the first 2 weeks but i haven't lost anything since then.

i am sick of meat & fat.i feel sick every time i see it.my live is also giving me problems as i am in alot of pain with it.

i am a type 2 diabetic & have been for 3 years,i have tried every medication out there but it makes me ill,i get alot of side effects from the medication.the only medication left is insulin & i don't want to go on this.i have managed to keep my blood sugars down on this diet, down to 7.i used to be about 15.

i need to lose weight so i can have some operations but it just isn't happening.

i really dont know weather i should stay on the LCHF diet or try something else but with most diets i only get to lose a few pounds

i have about 5-6 stone to lose.i have even gone to see about having a gastric band but i was told that i wasn't fat enough to have it.

Hello Ben,

Can you post what you're eating? Perhaps we can make some suggestions of more interesting things to eat that'll help.

Ben
I have lost 4 and a half stone in the last five months. I low carb but I do not have high fat either. I eat lots of leafy veg and salads, meat, chicken, fish, prawns, cheese, eggs, in moderation and fruit in moderation. I will have a little bread now again and mixed nuts. I also drink wine, again in moderation. Calorie counting is also key. Hope this helps.

LCHF is a great way of maintaining low blood sugars, hiwever the weight loose will not be as dramatic quickly, I am doing LCHF and I have lost nearly 1.5 stone in the first 1.5 months, now I loose about 1-2lbs each week sometimes 2 weeks which is good as the slower you loose it the better and it will stay lost. I have joined the gym now and will loose more through excersice. I'd you do LCLF then you will loose more weight quicker but you may not have as good as control of BG, though everyone is different and you may be fine with it.

Have to disagree with that statement Bio, its the carb reduction that helps the bg levels but it is calorie reduction that helps with weight loss, if you reduce carbs and increase fats you will stall your weight loss if the overall calories are higher or remain the same. This is why so many people who lchf can not loose weight. To loose weight you need to eat fewer calories.

By reducing carbs and not increasing fats you will loose weight and reduce your bg levels as well, as I and many others have done, and once you are happy with your weight you can either increase the carbs slightly, you will find you are less insulin resistant after loosing weight :D or you could if you so wish keep the carbs the same and gradually increase the fats in your diet to a level where you stabilise your weight but too much fat is just as bad as too many carbs, fat has twice the calories of carbs so make sure you get the balance right, low carbing will never be an excuse to eat as much as you like, and those who do will never loose weight.

I did say everyone is different and may not have as good :D not everyone is th same

I only have 3 meals a day and is portion controlled, occasionally have a snack. With me when I upped my calories (fat) a bit (I was doing 800-1200) now 1500-2000 it helped lower my BG's. Yes my weight loss slowed a bit, but happy with still loosing each week.

I have lost 3st since May on LCHF diet generally eating around 30g carbs a day, I also go Gym 3-4 times a week and do a fair bit of resistance work along with Cardio exercises. My weight loss has slowed down to around 1/2 lb a week now, sometimes none. I would guess because of muscle mass increasing. I do think you need to watch the amount of calorie intake to some extent, I don't really know how many calories a day I average, but totting up what I ate yesterday I had around 1300 Kcals, 50g of carbs as I want to increase them at least one, two days a week now, no idea of fat intake but given I ate a fair bit of cream mouse and 2 packs of pork scratching's they alone contain around 15g of fat, and yogurt I expect enough.

I think the idea behind the high fat and good glucose control is that the fat increases the GI of the diet. I can't really do LCHF because I'm vegetarian, so I'm doing medium carbs, medium fat, and have had some success, but I do find that even with meals with modest high GI carbs I do still get blood sugar spikes. I've been trying to work out ways of increasing the fat and managed to give myself a dicky stomach by eating too many nuts!

When I started on low carb, I didn't increase meat & fat. I cut right down on the obvious carbs, & ate a little more veg, & included full fat cheese & more nuts in my diet.

If that's what works out fur you yes, just check labels if you do buy any low fat products, as to make up for being lower in fat they add carbs and other nastys.

I wouldn't recommend going low fat. Did you read a book when you started low carb or did you just dive in? You could easily be eating too much protein. I'd recommend reading The New Adkins for a New You or The Smarter Science of Slim as good guides to doing a low carb diet.

Low carb - low fat is either a starvation diet or excessively high protein. It won't work, & would be very unbalanced. Happily most protein food come with associated fat - cheese is about 30% fat, nuts 50%, meat varies & should not be trimmed. I use ground/powdered nuts in place of flour.
