Good Morning all,

I wasn't sure whether to post here or on another forum, but I usually find the low carb forum helpful for most things. So, as the title suggests, I have not been feeling well due to digestive issues which started with indigestion/burping and then overall stomach discomfort and generally feeling poorly. I do normally suffer from mild IBS too. I have been tested for H Pylori bacteria and just got my results which were negative. My food is settling but just not digesting very well. Ultimately, I am wondering what I can be eating to best help my symptoms, while also keeping fairly low carb. I have been eating mostly goat's yoghurt with cinnamon and tried some ground almonds today in it. But I have also been desiring banana and manuka honey, which I have found when drip fed is o.k for blood sugar, but obviously this is not ideal. I am drinking loads of bottled water. I have a cooked evening meal of some lean fish or chicken and various veggies. Last night I tried celeriac, which was very good and comforting (am not surprised it is low carb as I expended almost half my body weight in energy just trying to prepare the damned thing!).

Any ideas on easy to digest, bland, low carb comfort foods gratefully received, many thanks!

thanks for that, very helpful

Chicken soup.

It's magical, and the easiest way of making it for someone who is off colour is (IMHO) this:

Buy a whole chicken.
Bung in baking tray with veg around and under it.
Roast just like for a Sunday roast.
Allow to cool.
Rip meat off bones and throw into a blender with all the veg, the chicken skin, and chicken stock.
Add herbs, garlic paste and any seasonings you like. Paprika is good for a cold. So is lemon.
Blend.

Microwave by the mugful, and top with a dash of cream and black pepper.

Freeze in portions, if desired.

I am very, very lazy. Using this method, I would expect to get 2+ litres of delicious, high quality chicken soup, after just 2 x 5 mins of cooking.

And you will still have the chicken bones to boil up if you want to make another batch of chicken soup the traditional way.

ooooh yes, thanks Brunneria

google T'2 and different gut flora ..it seems diabetics have different bug colonies to the normals
when I went LCHF, I added several types of probiotics for a couple of months, I got a couple that cover a wide spectrum of bugs and yeasts

thanks @jack412 that is helpful to know as I have been looking into this. Out of interest, which ones did you go for please?

LCHF was the main thing to help, I think

I think that I also had phenomena and strong antibiotics that wiped out my existing bug colony could have helped helped? I was starting with a blank sheet.

I forget the brands now, but one was a capsule with 3 bugs and a yeast and I thought at the time, why don't I just drink beer :)

you may chose to have a faecal transplant :wideyed:

so a friendly Dr may help, given the diabetes gut bug connection

I think that has freaked me out more than anything else I have read on this forum.
LOL, you have to be keen, but if you're squeamish, I don't think I will tell you how they make the capsules then:mask:

Handing hope to the millions of sufferers in the UK, the new study suggests that a “probiotic pill” - one containing live bacteria - can radically reduce blood glucose levels.

In experiments researchers discovered that using a pill containing common bacteria found in the human gut can shift the control of glucose levels from the pancreas to the upper intestine.

I used to like you.

Don't think I will be choosing option 2!

4.4 so far, so good. It does bounce around a little tho'
This is not in the "right" thread ?

Digestive enzymes with your main meal MAY help. They break down the food and it is digested properly which means less wind and bloating.

Thanks bobrobert, I have been considering digestive enzymes, so might try those.

Just wanted to post an update and also thank @Brunneria for the soup suggestion. This has proved to have given the most relief so far. Mainly because it is easy to eat and digest. I cooked a whole chicken, had some of the meat with veg for a meal and then ripped all the remaining meat off and refrigerated. I cooked the bones in my slow cooker with some water, pepper corns and mustard seeds overnight and in the morning had a lovely stock to which I then added and simmered carrots, onoin, garlic, leek, celery , chilli etc. Once cooked, I added some shredded chicken, ladled into a mug, seasoned with s&p, bouillon and turmeric and then mashed it all up a bit. My goodness, it was so comforting and soothing, so much so, I ate the whole lot, but felt much better for it! It was kind to my blood sugar too. This will be a weekly staple for me from now on as I have found something I really really like! Thanks @Brunneria x
