Just another vote for the low carb diet - the first thing that has given me any hope.
Yesterday at my first diabetic review since starting cutting out carbs only a couple of months ago Glimeperide was taken off my list of medications. My HbA1C had dropped from the high fifties to 45 and I had lost over a stone in weight. I didn't really follow a diet - I'm not a lover of studying everything I eat and counting carbs or calories or anything else - that would take most of the pleasure out of eating. I simply cut out bread, rice potatoes and pasta. This was no hardship at all.
The aim is eventually to come off medication altogether if possible. For the moment, I'm happy.
Cheers,
