Got my lipid profile report. My trigycerides are too low(31mg/dl) but I have high ldl(126mg/dl) and am on statin(not taking it regularly).Total cholesterol is 202mg/dl. HDL = 65mg/dl . I do eat carbs (nuts and seeds ) Is low trigycerides cause for concern?

Not sure for too low, mine was too high.

But as you seem interested in your numbers....

I did find this calculator rather useful trying to evaluate mine

Worst case you'll know little more, best case it provides a little guidance until you get the answer to your query.

You don't need to install anything.

Just put the few numbers you have, skip trigs and see what it suggests the trigs should be.)

My outcomes at DX was I should be dead...:arghh:

6 months of lchf,
They said I'd live forever :D

The link is the US version, so mg not mmol.
(Mmol is available for others if they search )

Good luck finding out .

Yes.....
Tirgycerides comes as 60mg/dl which I think may be the right number. For HDL of 65, my trigycerides are usually in the 60's....
Am eating carbs also (nuts, seeds) on a low carb diet so trigycerides shouldn't be so less (31mg/dl).....

Personally, I have always felt that low Triglyceride numbers are great. I spent around 10yrs (before finding Low Carb) trying to reduce mine.
On low carb, once past the weight loss phase I found my trigs had almost halved and my HDL has almost doubled - both great results for me.

But I suppose that as with other compounds in our bodies both too high and too low have the potential to be a problem.
I must say though that I have never before heard of anybody with such low triglycerides as you.

One thing I have heard is that in a typical Lipid measurement LDL is estimated rather than being actually measured and that an unusually low triglyceride can throw off the calculation so that your actual LDL is quite a bit lower than the estimation.

I am not aware of they the lipid profiling is done- Ldl & trigylcerides are estimated or measured. I could get the lipid profile done from another lab or hospital after 3 months or so...

Hi @saky Sorry, I seem to have got the Triglyceride levels mixed a bit between US and UK units in my post above.

For LDL and HDL to convert from US units (mg/dL) to UK units (mmol/L) you divide by 38.67
But for Triglyceride you divide by 88.57

However, the good news is that (according to Google - not sure of the source) the 'normal' range for Triglycerides is in between 10 mg/dL and 150 mg/dL

So, you are well withing that range and at the lower (healthier) end of it.

There is also a difference in the figures if your blood test was fasted or unfasted. The levels come out lower if fasted.
This according to HEART UK:
from an un-fasted test aim for trigs below 2.3 mmol/L = 203 mg/dL
from a fasted (10 - 14hrs) aim for below 1.7 mmol/L = 150 md/dL

As an example, mine in US units is 103 mg/dL from a fasted blood test.

This is my report. Don't know if trigycerudes were measured or calculated

I read and also my dietitian told me, that once you start statin you cannot quit and you have to take it for life. My doctor suggested 5 mg statin, which I used for 6 days and stopped. I told my MD that I Will treat it with a diet.

Statins (rosuvastatin - 10mg) is causing higher AST/ALP (liver enzymes). I was told to reduce the dose to 5mg/day. Also was told to avoid cheese, meat, egg yolks.
Trying those things for a month and then will check cholesterol, liver enzymes.

For most of us, the amount of cholesterol eaten has only a modest effect on the amount of cholesterol circulating in the blood. When you consume these cholesterol-rich foods, your liver makes less cholesterol. If you restrict these foods, your liver simply makes more.

Cheese, meat and egg yolks all contain high-quality protein, fats and other valuable nutrients. What are you going to replace them with? Is fatty fish available?

The greater risk for everyone lies in foods that are high in trans fats. Those often appear on food labels as hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. Avoid palm oil.

If I were you, I'd try to bake, grill, poach or steam food sometimes rather than frying all the time and use healthy fats such as butter, ghee and cold pressed oils like olive oil.

I have started to eat egg whites and tofu, sprouted mung beans, home made low fat milk cottage cheese. Nuts and seeds - almonds, walnuts, pistas, brazil nuts, peanuts, cashews, hazel nuts, pumpkin-sesame, water melon seeds, chia seeds.
Yet to try lupin and hemp hearts...
Although liver making more cholesterol when dietary cholesterol is limited is true for some people, I seem to have Familial dyslipidemia. Dyslipidemia is charaterised by less number of ldl receptors in the cells so ldl is blood is elevated.
Due to low carb diet my trigylcerides have dropped dramatically (35mg/dl to 60mg/dl) and HDL has gone up (60mg/dl - 70mg/dl). Only ldl is a problem.

I stopped 5 mg of statin, and egg yolks. I steam my food and very little cold press olive oil. Added fresh fruits , pumpkin seeds and pecan nuts. Will go for another cholesterol check up in 6 weeks. Thanks for all the useful information.
