Macdonalds and Diabetese

At first glance it's very difficult to grasp! I'm psyching myself up for a second glance....
:wacky:

I do use McDonald's, but only because their coffee is accessible and cheap! Can't remember when I last had something to eat there.

I have always thought it wise to throw away McDonalds food and eat the polystyrene box, there would be more nutrition in it! Perhaps they have counted the carbs in the box?

I notice the sheet is dated 2008 so quite old. They've obviously been given this advice by nutritionists who as usual haven't a clue. Fat has nothing to do with diabetes and calorie counting is irrelevant; it's the carbs that matter. I hate this carb units thing. What on earth is wrong with just adding up the grams of carbs - hardly rocket science.

Nothing wrong with Maccy D's providing you throw away the bun, fries and drink...just eat the burger, cheese and pickle.
I quite like on their website that they show the nutrition info per item so you can find out how many carbs the burger has (1.1g for a Big Tasty patty). I do however also like Burger King where they will do you a bunless burger on request.

It took me a while to find the bit saying 1 carb = 15g carbs, so you have to multiply the carb by 15. What is all that about?

From memory, MacDonalds is one of the companies that sponsor the British Nutrition Foundation. Says it all really.

I am happy to say I have never eaten a MacDonalds in my life. Probably because I don't like burgers!

Order your hamburger without cheese.
Fat chance that happening as your request will be ignored, I tell them not to put that pickle rubbish on and I still get it in the burger.

McDonalds burgers taste nothing like a real burger. Still good but not sure how to describe it. Maybe things have changed in the last 15 years since I e had one.

Something about their pickles too. I really liked them.

I usually always got the chicken sandwich sans the bun with mayo lettuce and tomato. Can't remember my last fast food venture

Now I'm even paranoid about guac on a salad bar since I heard rhehbput gluten in it. Fast food is off my list though tasty as it is.

My personal favourite is Five Guys, where you can choose a burger wrapped in lettuce or in a bowl - with all the free toppings you end up,with a pretty decent side salad. They also do a nutrition list which lists each item separately.

Rather than look at something that's 10 years old, it's probably best to look at the Nutrition Calculator on their website. Has everything you need to know and works nicely on a mobile phone. In spite of being MacDonalds.

I must admit, I didn't notice the age of that advice . It came up when I diagnosed Macdonalds and diabetes . It also give the nutrition figure you need to know in terms of grams of carbs and proteins. The advice remains the current advice for diabetics on the Macdonald's website. So it remains what diabetics will see if they do not know much about nutrition.

I was actually searching for info about the original brothers - one of whom became diabetic ( I think) and was trying to check.

If you google food for diabetics on Pinterest - good advice and pictures of Real foods crop up everywhere
The difference is quite stark in terms of the angle - hopefully people google use Pinterest!
