Hi, just wondered if anyone has their nails done having type 1 I wasn’t sure if it’s safe or not.
Thanks

Yeah! I have had a manicure and pedicure and massage and spent time in saunas ... with no problem.
I think there are concerns around neuropathy for massage and concerns a sauna can hide a hypo but I have never heard or read about concerns with manicure.

I’m T2 but I get manicures and pedicures every 3 weeks or so, I doubt very much that there’s any reason why T1 shouldn’t get their nails done. Lots of T1 get tattoos etc which is far more invasive. Just make sure you go to a reputable salon. I avoid the places that do walk ins and have a fast turnover. I go to a small salon and have built a rapport the the girl and she does my nails every time. A bit of self care is very good for you :)

No issues with manicures/acrylics/gels, they are not linked to t1 in any way, only surgical procedures should be approached with caution.

Thank you guys for the replies, going for my first set of nails today. I can be excited now

Now you have a post a picture here once you have them done !

I've had gel and they were great but a nightmare to remove and only lasted 2 weeks !

I get acrylics because my nails are terrible with having psoriasis, they curl and flake - been getting them done for 20 odd years without a problem, you’re gonna love them! Look forward to the pics :)

I think the concern is about those with advanced neuropathy who would not feel if they got a cut or a wound. Cuts and wounds can also be slower to heal when sugars are high.
It's one of my motivations to keep supple enough that I can look at the soles of my feet just to check for injuries.
