Use this calculator - decide how many carbs you want to eat a day and fill in the rest it will calculate all your macros and the calories you require to lose or maintain weight

Have a good look around the rest of the site which is by a lady called Jenny Rhul - it's a mine of info and a great place to learn a lot - I still go back and read it now and I'm 7 years in

I’m 27 years old, 5’10” and weigh about 205-210 lbs.

I’ve never tried, but the most I’ve ever been able to eat in a day is probably around 10,000-12,000 calories. I could probably get close to 20,000 if I really tried.

Wow that's a lot of calories, the recommended amount for a man is around 2400.

It is quite a bit. More than I'd care to eat these days that's for sure.

Now, if we're talking about how many daily caloric maintenance level (the amount I need to stay the same weight) it's somewhere around 3000 depending on how active I was that day.

My first post was a subtle way of saying that you cannot give a meaningful answer to the OP's question. The variation between two people's daily needs can differ by thousands.

I have to ask why you posted this question to this forum. Max carbs is probably the last thing I expected to see round here.
So why?

Do you mean how much is the maximum amount of carbs and calories you can eat each day to be healthy as a type 2 diabetic?

When you use the calculator recommended by @lovinglife you'll need to add your own carbohydrate requirements as this will be part of the data used to define your personal dietary requirements. So how many carbs you eat is usually something you need to decide for yourself at the start of a new (lower carb) diet.

A lower carb diet can be anything from around 130g carbs a day right down to very low carb at 20g and below. There's no fixed requirements, so what you decide on may often be a compromise between what you feel will help reduce your glucose levels against what you can reasonably commit to eating fairly long term. Lower is generally better, but can be harder to keep to, so sometimes somewhere in the middle is more easily manageable and maintainable, though possibly slower to achieve targets. However, you can always change the proportions at any time, and may well need to do so anyway at some point, e.g. if you've lost a desired amount of weight and then want to maintain it.

Cheers

There are a few formulas that work out metabolic rate and calories to maintain current weight, Harris-Benedict formula being one.

This is a nutritional calculator based on age, weight, height, activity level. that I found very helpful - you input the amount of carbs you're aiming for and the weight loss you want, and it breaks down the macronutrients for you:

The only way to work out what your carbohydrate intake should be is by testing against your glucometer. This video gives you a method of establishing your carb tolerance:

@Indy51 that calculator is pretty helpful, thank you. I'm doing LCHF and seen good results but never sure about a good balance between carbs/protein/fat. I can input numbers into My Fitness Pal to keep an eye on things.

Exercise obvs a factor - not sure if 5 sessions of 30 mins swimming (freestyle) is considered Heavy Exercise or Moderate.

I think a few posters here don't yet understand @TorqPenderloin sense of humour :) As he was pointing out it's a hard question to answer - then again when we are newbies we all have our deer in the headlights moments!

Hi @scotland10

I found that focusing on reducing the sugar levels reduced the weight but either way at a minimum you need to get your carb intake below 150g and probably best below 100g. Calorie wise for a male less than 1800cals. These are a bit generic but I did want to give you a starting point. Have a look around the Diet Forums and What did you eat today forums to get some ideas. There is a free LCHF course provided by this site that would be well worth considering

Hi. There are many different answers to that question but my personal view would be to ignore calories and just think carbs. Many would set a maximum of, say, 200gm/day and many have below 100gm based on forum posts. So much depends on you, your activity level and what your objectives are. Use the meter to monitor blood sugar and have a sensibly balanced diet for diabetes which means having lower carbs and enough proteins, fats, veg etc. Let the calories look after themselves.
