Medical Alert Tattoos?

Hi Twinkle

Here is a link to lots of design ideas:

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/i ... rt+tattoos

If you google Medical Alert Tattoos you will find more and some general information which will be useful. I think there are many members who have them. Anna29 for example. Here is the link to a thread on this forum about them.

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=29132&p=271927&hilit=tattoos#p271927

which contains a link with many more interesting designs, and a lot of information on the 4 page thread.
Hope this helps
What a darn good Idea, never thought of this, as I had the same query about jewelery, that it may not be spotted in time, Thanks Twinkle will definately be looking into the idea.

I don’t wish to preach to you and I am not an old fashioned fuddy duddy, but just in case you are not aware, I thought I should let you know that many tattoos contain heavy metals such as mercury, antimony, beryllium, chromium, cobalt, nickel, and arsenic amongst others. As a nutritional therapist I encounter many people with health issues that can be associated with toxicity, heavy metal toxicity being one of them. Unfortunately, we are surrounded by thousands of toxins everyday that put additional unnecessary stress on our immune systems and compromise our health, and as you know diabetes is an autoimmune condition. Please research thoroughly before you willing subject your body to further toxicity. If you are adamant that you need a tattoo to alert people to your condition, look for a parlour that can guarantee their inks are heavy metal free and that the inks have a proven safety certificate and guaranteed to have no side effects. However, it is the heavy metals that gives tattoos permanency.
I have been type 1 for over 30 years and have never had the need of a tattoo, or an identification label, for this purpose. I make sure that at least one person I am with knows I am a diabetic, I carry a visible card in my purse/handbag along with a small bottle of neat Ribena (2 rations worth) which is easy to drink from should I feel low.
If you feel that you need to wear something to alert people a safer alternative would be a medical altert bracelet/necklace or if these are not to your liking perhaps you could design a range of earrings, rings or brooches? Personally I think education is the best; make sure that all your family, friends, work colleagues, associates, or just casual acquaintances know that you are diabetic and what they can do should you become hypo, there is nothing to hide or be ashamed of, everyone has something they have to cope with. If you do go hypo and they are unable to cope they will be aware of your condition and will be able to inform the emergency services if needs be. Best wishes

You right in the first place!
old fashioned fuddy duddy

WOW That 'is AMAZING'
Its full of detail and so well done too...
Has the same artist done others for you ?

It's a cover up job ?
What is it covering up ?

It must have taken some hours of work - how many ?

Where you okay with your BG levels , whilst having this done ?
Sorry for all the questions - but its bloomin great :D

I really am amazed at the fantastic detail in the koi carps scales , markings, tail, fins etc ...
Its gorgeous and you are brave to have this done too . :)

Hope the healing goes well for you , keep the routine of keeping it clean and apply whatever you
are using to aid healing .
I used Bepanthen nappy ointment on mine.

Its so well done - that 'tattoo' - and I do like it , a lot

Anna.

Thanks Anna.. Yes its covering a dodgy tribal tattoo i got (they say if you going to get a bad one then its the first tattoo)
The dodgy tattoo was done by a local so called tattooist...The one whos done this is very good and is from further away from where i live...ive watched him doing my daughters boyfriends great tattoo so i knew he was good..
Its took 2 x 2 and 1/2 hours work...He was dissapointed how much he did 3 days ago because i bled alot and it took going over and over to get the ink in (did have 3 cans of dry cider night before so maybe my fault).
My blood levels were 13 when i went in, and over 3 hours later they were 8.9...My blood normally goes down faster than that, but i guess the stress/trauma prevented it going down..
Yes i look after it well and use Bepanthan...I put cling film over it when bed time arrives and wear a vest in day if not going out...Lots of people on the internet say not to put cling film on...but my tattooist says its ok for first 3 or 4 days for a few hours...and never done me or anybody else i know any arm!
ps ..its looking better now..the colours are coming out better..
Thanks Anna for the kind comments :D xxx

Thats good..They have done it at a decent price....mine is cheap ...because we arent in a big city....just in the sticks lol
Mines cost £200 up to now...It took longer than expected last time because i bled and he was going over and over to try cover the old **** lol (blood all over the parlour)..

I think next time will be the light at the end of the tunnel....although i want it all the way round (half sleeve) so god knows how long/much its going to take?

Hi All.

Am curious to know and understand the addiction of wanting 'more' tattoo's ?
Have been told many times over - it can be addictive with tattoo's.
Folk have asked me if I want any more than the ONE I have got ...

I admire all the art work that goes into them and some are amazing [ like smiffys koi carp ]
But wouldnt want another one done on me.
Found when I had mine done the sensation was more irritant then pleasant :?
It was like scratchy sunburn when ryan did it.
[I kept thinking hurry up will you! took him 20mins to do it  ]
How do folk cope with a long sitting job being done ?

Is it the pain folk like 'or' the artwork ? or 'both' ?
Tattoos are fabulous for the individuality and meaning to each person as they are so personal ...
Just cant grasp this addiction thingy folk have mentioned to me :?

Anna,

Anna. Going to be Interesting listening to folks views. Personally I just like tattoos, not particularly keen on the pain, especially the other day, but gotta admit its a great buzz when he says "that'll do for today" lol
Even though the most sensitive parts are quite painful, I cant wait for the next sitting. I look forward to it.
Theres plenty of people hate tattoos but everybody is an individual.
I will get more when this is finished but probs not until after summer hols..
Healing well.
