Meds change... Wegovy experience.

Hi, following my last post Ive had a chat with the GP, he said that Mounjaro wasn't available on the NHS for diabetics, which I'm sure isn't true, he did however prescribe Ozempic, chemist has called to say its out of stock and is changing it to Wegovy which is the same drug.

Debating wether to start the Wegovy or push for the Mounjaro?

Thanks

According to Diabetes UK type 2 diabetics can be prescribed Munjaro in the U.K. if you fit certain criteria. A type 2 friend of mine is on it.

It's wild how inconsistent the info can be depending on the GP. You're not wrong, Mounjaro is available on the NHS for type 2 in some cases, but you have to meet certain criteria. Might be worth asking again or even getting a second opinion if you think it's the better fit for you.

As for Wegovy, yeah, same active ingredient as Ozempic (semaglutide), just dosed differently and mainly aimed at weight loss. Some people do great on it, but there have also been reports of side effects, especially around digestive issues and longer-term use. There's actually this page that goes into the legal side of it, including cases where people had complications.

I don't think that's true, I was prescribed Mounjaro. I'm terrified to take it though so can't offer my experience.
Hiya, I'm Type 2 and on Mounjaro 5mg, about to go up to 7.5mg on Saturday, just prescribed yesterday by my GP. What terrifies you about it? The side effects at the start on 2.5mg aren't enjoyable but once you get use to the medication it does become easier. My diabetes came out of remission and became a problem due to steroids I have for asthma. I have lost over 20kg since October with the Mounjaro and it has been doing really well at controlling my blood glucose levels. I need insulin for meals because of the steroids but only a dinner time when the steroids are at their highest levels. Would be taking a lot more insulin if I didn't have the Mounjaro.
