Hi all,
I'm getting a bit concerned about my obsessiveness with controlling my diabetes. Beating myself up when I'm high and if I have a hypo it pretty much ruins my day. Irrational thoughts, running things over in my head again and again. This is amplified by being a mother of two infants, breastfeeding, having lost 5 stone (deliberately) and the knock on effect all of these things have on my diabetes control.

What I'm asking is....where do I go for advice and support with diabetes related mental health? I don't need drugs, I just need someone to help me rationalise my thoughts.

Thank you

@Poosecat I'd try both your GP and your DSN. Many diabetes teams have access to psychological support for diabetes issues.

If you feel your obsessive issues extend beyond diabetes, then your GP would be the best port of call.

If you feel able to talk things over here, there are many kind listening ears. X

If you don't want to take drugs then ask about 'Talking Therapy' which is now being offered by some surgeries.
It hard at the best of times with small children, try to be kinder to yourself you are human, after all. Best wishes.

Hi @Poosecat Perfectly normal as an insulin user to think like this and over analyse and persecute yourself over the numbers, many do including myself, i've eased up slightly over the years but I do still get down about the high numbers but try not to take each reading too literally, just accept why, take a correction and move on. You have alot on your plate too, kids are a handful then couple that with a needy condition and so just try and be easier on yourself. When my numbers are high i've kind of adopted a mantra by saying 'NEXT' and moving on..

@Poosecat Another thought - I think you use a Libre? If you do, then maybe take a break from it. It's a great tool, of course, but sometimes it can contribute to obsessive control and upset/stress.
