Metformin, before or after ?

Just curious to see when people take their metformin,(if their on it)

I'm on 1x twice a day, it says on the box, "with food"

Question is, before or after ?
 
Mine says "with or just after food". I take it just after to reduce the chances of an upset stomach.
 
Thanks for the reminder I've just had home made chicken soup and forgot to take it ......
 
Hi, I have 2 tablets twice a day. I take the first 2 as soon as I get up, then have breakfast. I take the other 2 at bed time, along with other tables. I do it like that so I dont forget them. Is this ok?
 
I take mine mid-meal or just after with no side effects. If I take it before on an empty stomach, it gives me one heck of a gut-ache.
 
Mine say after food so I take one immediately after breakfast and one immediately after tea with no side effects. My understanding that they would cause tummy upsets taken on an empty stomache?

During your meal is better than before or after :)
 
Usually mid meal, but sometimes just after if I forget.

After - so long as I remember. When I forget (which is a fairly regular occurrence :eek:) I take it and have something like a few nuts with it, to cushion the impact if it's a while since I've eaten. If I really forget (i.e. it's only a couple of hours until my next tablet is due) I don't bother to take it, and just take the next one when the time arrives. I don't think metformin is as time-critical as some drugs and it's not the end of the world if you miss the occasional dose.

Incidentally, anyone got a fool-proof way of remembering to take tablets? I draw the line at phone alarms and such :)
 
I take Metabet-SR, Atorvastatin, Candesartan, Multi Vitamin, and Vitamin-D with my 1st cuppa coffee
Hope that counts as food :¬)

I am looking for information. This week I started taking Metformin. This is my first week I have taken my 4th tablet this morning. Is it possible that I can feel sick late in the evening after taking my tablet in the morning or does it make you feel sick one or two hours after taking?
