Metformin for type 1

Hi @Jess1D I feel for you and although I have no experience of balancing insulin, but there was a thread on here a few weeks ago when the lady put the wrong insulin in the wrong pen for a couple of days before she noticed and her levels were going up and up. I would feel bad not saying anything if it was as simple as that.

Really hope you get levelled out really soon.

Unfortunately that hasn’t happened
Seems I need a lot of insulin to cover the mornings!

Really sorry you're having such high numbers. Random thought, have you done a lateral flow test, just so you can at least rule out covid? Also, have you got a new pack of insulin cartridges you could try, just to rule out there being a problem with the ones you're using?

My boyfriend has bought home tests today-will do one
I do have a new pack of insulin cartridges, changed the pen 2 days ago

Just tested positive for Covid
At least you now know the likely cause of your sudden change in insulin needs!
I hope you won't have any other ill effects of the virus.
Keep a very close eye on your numbers in case you suddenly need less insulin again.

Thank you, yes I will be keeping an even closer eye on my numbers

Sorry you've got Covid, and hope you don't feel too unwell with it. Hopefully once you recover from it, you're insulin requirements will reduce again. Take care, and look after yourself.

Good morning

I have been struggling with high numbers in the mornings, I carb count & five more insulin than needed but numbers still go very high
Have expressed concern about this to my nurse
Had a call yesterday & she just said that being diabetic so long (24 years) that my sites are over used & insulin takes longer to absorb
She has suggested metformin?!!
Will this help?
Is it suitable?
Many thanks
Sounds like she's not that well up on things. Been type one somewhat longer, and have been on metformin for years due to developing an insulin resistance. If I miss a dose of metformin, the insulin essentially fails to work. You need to talk with a diabetic specialist nurse practitioner at the very least.

Please can someone advise
I am at work- bad numbers
Spoke tk a manager explained I’m not feeling well- they don’t want me to leave (because I’ve lost my
Licence I’ll have to get bus & train) they’re like no you’re very disoriented
Also I had to ring
My DSN for them to speak to & nurse was like do t worry her numbers will go down they’ve gone up - I’m now off the scale
Has anyone got any advice please?
I just want to get home IMG_1648034398.720759.jpg

Have you done a correction dose?

This sounds like sound advice from your manager.

Can you ring your DSN again to let her know you've gone even higher and you don't feel well?

Can you phone someone to pick you up? You want to test for ketones too.
Should your numbers not drop, and if you get nauseous or develop a stomach ache, go to A&E.

@Jess1D , would you like me to move your post to a thread of it's own?
It's not very visible being on page 3 of an older thread, so it's likely not to be noticed by many.

Hi,

Do you have a BG meter with you to verify your sensor? As mentioned, you should be checking for ketones too.

If I was in your manager's position. I'd dial 111 & speak to an NHS advisor on your behalf..

I am struggling so much at the moment
Cannot get these mornings sorted- desperately trying
Low carb breakfasts
Normal breakfasts
Very large amounts of insulin
I’ve given 30 units so far today already

Thank you for your reply’s
Someone from work very kindly drove me home
Numbers are now 23.7
Checked for ketones - 0.9

Hi,

Glad you got home OK. The concern is if you appeared disorientated & not accompanied with someone who knows you? You may have been misdiagnosed as "something else" if you encountered an issue..?

When injecting, do you perform an "airshot" to prime the needle before you inject your dose?
