Metformin for type 1

I am struggling so much at the moment
Cannot get these mornings sorted- desperately trying
Low carb breakfasts
Normal breakfasts
Very large amounts of insulin
I’ve given 30 units so far today already
How were your readings last night and waking this morning? Were yesterday's readings unusually bad compared to the last 2 weeks?
I'm another that most days has to inject before I get out of bed to avoid foot on floor/dawn phenomenon, plus my insulin sensitivity is worse in the mornings and much worse if my BGs are above 12/13. Endo has just suggested I try metformin...have you continued with this?

Even if you initially had no/mild symptoms with Covid, I wonder if yesterday (especially the brain fog) was partly due to its lingering effects. Please don't beat yourself up if you find your insulin requirements keep increasing/changing. If you were able to have much better control when using a pump, then maybe lobby hard to have one re-issued asap.

Thank you for your reply
Readings last night settled down ok, was low in the night though
Woke up this am-8,gave 3 units, didn’t have breakfast- went up badly again (but feel it could be rebound from the night hypo) felt rough again
This afternoon though levels were normal
I’ll be honest the Metformin hasn’t made a difference, my nurse suggested I take the max dose- so upped it-just felt really giddy with it

Hi,

Glad you got home OK. The concern is if you appeared disorientated & not accompanied with someone who knows you? You may have been misdiagnosed as "something else" if you encountered an issue..?

When injecting, do you perform an "airshot" to prime the needle before you inject your dose?

Yes I always prime the pen before I inject

This is the last 24 hours IMG_1648161683.840266.jpg
Didn’t have anything til 11 am -it was a coffee
Eventually had lunch at 1.30
Had a phone call from the docs- she was going to try & see if I can be seen by the consultant soon

Did you treat the hypo or did it go up on its own?

Good that your doctor is trying to get you in to see the consultant.

Good morning
Still can’t get a control on this
Occupational health rang me yesterday as my absences have been higher than normal-we had a good chat
She has signed me off work -
I have spoken to my doctor - again asking for help-they have contacted my consultant to see whether I can get an appointment sooner
I feel as though I am begging for help & just being told the same thing-give more insulin
This is not working
Already this am I have given 16 units- numbers are 19.3
So given a correction dose

I too was put on Metformin but ended up having a hypo where |I needed assistance from others so be careful with the dose. My consultant just prescribed me 500mg. I feel they should have started me on a much lower dose. As a result, this hypo could have a rippled effect as I have just had to renew my drivers licence. I had to declare the 1 hypo and now I am worried they may revoke the licence and all that is due to a consultant throwing Metformin at me over a telephone review.
Ive still not had a face to face diabetic review since the start of covid.
