Being diabetic lol.
Hi. I am on metformin. Today is day 7 and am now taking it 2 times per day 500mg.
My bloods are not really that much better; still 8’s after eating. I believe I could probably do this without the tablet on healthy eating (as I did before) or is it that I still am eating too many carbs?
If you have to eat very carefully with metformin then why can I not do it without?
Sorry if this is negative; I try not to b. Su. X

Hi. I'm exactly in the same position as you. I'm on Sr and week 3. Readings same as before but stomach feels odd.... I'm actually less regular than before and feel like I've been pumped up with gas inside. Horrid.
I got my levels from 86 to 60 in 6 weeks without meds and didn't know if I should take them but after I got a letter to say I'd got some background retinopathy on one eye, I ripped open the Met and started to take.
Good luck.

I was 37 I think 2 years ago after being first diagnosed at 48. Then lockdown hit and I gave up. My A1c after I had my head in the sand during lockdown says 50 so GP puts me on metformin. I really thought by now I’d b in the 5 club. X.

Dietary changes will likely have a far greater effect than metformin..
Mine ended up in the bin as my stomach couldn't take it.. intermittent fasting and ultra low carb/keto made remission come fairly fast for me.

I’ve not been told if it’s reversed or gone just normal no further action I’ve only learned from reading post on here I’ve just joined

This makes me think, what is the point of the metformin then?? Mayb my numbers will come down soon. X

That’s brill. You will have to continue to eat low carb thou or it will creep back up as mine did. X

Doctors will always try medication first .. it's how they are trained ..worse luck for us...

Most don't know or understand how nutrition and T2 works in order to give sound dietary advice.
Those that can and do are unfortunately few and far between.

I’m hoping to do well and my metformin to b in the bin soon too. X

Because for many it does have an impact. For doctors they are not used to patients in general making the changes needed dietary. (There are enlightened on here of course but I suspect it’s not a general rule)

it can have bad effects, it can also work with zero. I had well over a decade no effects.

for some such as @Rachox they maintain a dose to help support too

everyone is different, but it does have a place

"might have a place"?

It does seem to make a difference for me - I got changed from brand Metformin SR to generic Sukkarto which has a different shellac coating. My digestive system seems to be quite slow and they didn't dissolve uniformly which made my numbers rise steadily over a couple of years. Also resulted in bouts of uncontrollable diarrhea, urgh. With renewed focus on LC (I was still eating LC but had a few more of the occasional slip ups in those past couple of years mainly because it didn't seem to matter what I did numbers were rising) and returned to non-shellac coated Metformin numbers are getting better. So what I take from that is that it helps but LC helps the most. And none of it is instant it builds over time. @SuNuman

Thanks for the tag @Andydragon .
I do indeed take Metformin and have done since diagnosed over 4 years ago. I am lucky that I tolerate it very well, no side effects.
I did try dropping one of the three tablets per day to see what happened, I reckon it raised my average blood sugar by 0.5 mmol/L, so not a huge amount but significant I feel.
I think @SuNuman that you are only 7 days in so the full effect of the Metformin may not have been reached yet, I think it would be better to give it more of a chance.
I also continue taking it as there are various other health benefits, here are a couple of pieces on it:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7212476/

Have a look around the Internet, you’ll find more.
Hope that helps.
