Does Metformin help speed up weight loss please? I mean, apart from making me less hungry, will it actually help with the weight shifting, particularly around my tummy?

Also it says to take my Metformin SR with food. How much food should I take with it to avoid tummy problems?

In a word - No! The best you can hope for is reduced appetite. If you are like me, and apple shape, the only way to get rid of the fat around your waist is to walk, and walk, and walk. I scoured all kinds of websites, they all said the same. My tummy flab is going, but I do walk miles, and it is the last of my flab to go. My arms, legs, face, chest, bum, all the fat is gone, I still have quite a bit around my waist, but it's going. Get walking Lucy!

Different strokes for different folks. I found as long as I took my regular Metformin after a meal, I was fine.

HI. Yes, Metformin doesn't really help weight loss but does reduce appetite so may help a little in that way. It works by reducing glucose production by the liver and also helping overcome insulin resistance in the muscles. Metformin SR isn't too fussy when it's taken but take it with at least some food but you shouldn't have any problems unless you're unlucky.

Does anyone feel dizzy with metformin especially after exercise? I started it 6 days ago and have felt my head swimming the last few days. I read the other thread about the slow release version perhaps that is the answer?

I did a lot at first, especially after food or exercise. For me it settled down after 2-3 weeks but if it carries on it's probably worth a conversation with your doctor.

Not dizziness, but a decimated appetite. It was hell for a while. I did decide to stay on the regular Metformin, but I certainly would have a word with your GP and try the SR. Lots of people found the SR so much easier to take.
