Hi
New to the forum and looking for some advice, I’ve been on Metformin for about two years one in the morning one at teatime 1000mg overall. Over the last 6 weeks I’ve been suffering my stomach cramps and an upset stomach it’s become unbarebale now and after clear bloods and tests the GP has suggested stopping Metformin for two weeks to see if things clear up. So I took my last tablet yesterday morning. Has anyone experienced this, did it help, and how did you manage your bloods. Thanks

I had dreadful gastric problems with them so stopped taking them after 3 weeks.
Stopped eating carbs and never looked back.

Just a pinch of metformin was hell on my gut. I understand there's a slow release one now, but I prefer staying off it completely. Dropped all diabetes meds and statins three months after starting LCHF. In the non-diabetic range now. :) You have options!

I also suffered significant problems on metformin. I also have colitis which does not help. Hope the improvement continues

I had problems with just a single tablet - I think I managed two tablets in a day twice, and not consecutive days.
I threw the tablets in the bin - I got better.
As Metformin doesn't do anything to lower BG levels there is no need to be concerned about them.

I’m thinking that I will drop the Metformin if the problems go

Thanks it’s difficult as it’s the main advice to take meds from the GP, but feeling rough

I literally stopped taking metformin this morning as I've had nothing but bowel problems since starting on it in March. I'll see if it improves over the next few days and decide what to do next.

Hi
Well I stopped on Thursday, took the last one on Thursday morning and there is a definite improvement so fingers crossed Metformin is the cause. Blood sugars are all over the shop but rather that than the pain and discomfort. We now need to consider what next. Hoping you have the same experience and see some improvement
