When I moved to France in 2000 I found that they didn't use beef insulin and they measured blood sugar in milligrams. Converting to modern insulin was relatively easy and adopting mg/dL was even better.

100 mg/dL is 5.6 mmol/L, so if your test says 100 mg your blood sugar is 100% OK. If it's 50 mg you've only got 50% of the sugar you need etc.

OK, I used mmol for years back in the UK but now I'm older and becoming a bit stupid, and especially when I'm hypo, the mg/dL method needs no interpretation and is a real blessing. And other people find the mg readings really easy to understand.

I think it's easier too. Basically you multiply mm/L by 18 for mg/dl. So it's a bigger number, and you don't have the tenths/fractions to mess with.
