Hi all,
T2 here, when i was first diagnosed i was told to drink plenty of water around 2 litres a day, I did this for about a year and was always going to the toilet, night Time was the worse up and down all night. Seemed like i was awake every hour, now I've started drinking full fat milk, I have no problem with weight, I drink just over 2 pints a day, and, now, I don't use the toilet half as much and sleeping better during the night, is this too much milk or will the benefits of milk outway the negative?.
Thank you for any advice.

Hi Vince
I'm guessing that all that milk won't be doing your blood sugar levels any favors, do you test after drinking it?
As EBe66 said 2 pints is over 50g of carbs, so the equivalent to around 10 teaspoons of sugar. Personally I would rather stick with the water.
I know where you're coming from with the night-time bathroom visits, it could be a symptom of high blood sugar but for me I think it's an age related thing, I can't remember having the same problem when I was younger.
Now I get all my hydration done in the day, nothing after 7pm, I only have the occasional night time visit now so it seems to work for me.

Thanks for your posts, I am due for my T2 check up in February, last one was 43, so I will, probably, have a higher reading! But I'm on a carb intake of around 130 per day (that includes porridge and the milk drinking).
I have a TEE2 meter which gives me all sorts of numbers, so not sure what my glucose levels are but a couple of eggs for lunch and chicken breast with veg at night is really all I eat.
I've never been a lover of food so I Don't mind the repetitive meals but it does look like no more milk,we'll not as much.
Can I exchange the milk for macha green tea with hermasetas?.
Thanks.

I would not personally drink that much milk especially homogenised, a glass is probably enough (not a science based guess). I am in the camp of once you have grown, there is little reason for too much of an item which is great at growning things. Recently I have been having some Kefir, mixed with cows or goats milk.

They revised the 2 litres a day advice, realising that fruit and veg, and also soups, yoghurt, etc. include plenty of water! And yes, tea or coffee are made with water. It can be dangerous to drink too much water so 2l on top of a lot of water-based foods isn't so good for us.

And I also find drinking too much near bedtime means a trip to the loo. So I try to drink most of my liquid intake before 6pm.

Drinking warm water before bed time is even better I find

I’ve never been told to drink water let alone 2l in a day. I don’t like water anyway I just drink tea, coffee or sugar free squash.

Following the shock of diagnosis I cut Milk right out of my diet after I found all the nasties in it for me. Whilst not on strict low carb I try for fairly low , no potatoes, rice and pasta etc. Never checked my bloods after eating (just been lucky really) but I get everyone is different.

Ive replaced cows milk with unsweetened soy milk which I use in Tea and porridge (steel cut oats). Now it takes a little while to get used to but ive not looked back really.

Yes the water thing and night time bathroom trips. great idea restricting liquids after 6pm- as another poster says an age thing also (M59)

T2 Diagnosed Apr 22 -unmedicated ....so far!

I never touch milk for over 40 years unless it’s part of a recipe and then I usually replace with cream and/or water

I had a blood test last Tuesday not for t2 review but when I phoned to check results I found out that they had done a glucose check aswel, I was told all was OK! I think this needs investigating as for the past 2 months I've been drinking whey protein, to put weight on (I had lost nearly 2 stone down to 8st 3lbs) I looked terrible.
So why such a good result?.

@Vince01 Without knowing the actual figure for your hba1c, which I'm assuming you don't, to be told all was ok doesn't really mean much I'm afraid. It could be the same, or have gone up but you don't need any extra medication etc.

I dont think there are any negatives to drinking milk in moderation. Having said that I would personally choose organic milk if I was drinking 2 pints every day but that will cost you more of course. Even better (in my opinion) is goats milk. Similar in price to organic cows milk (Asda, per litre) but not everyone likes the taste. I love it.
