hi my husband has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetis , his colestrol is fine but they want him to take statins , is this usual

Statins seem to get prescribed for just about anyone presenting with type 2 diabetes. Yes it is usual but not popular with some.

I was "advised" by my GP last year to take statins as I am over 40 with T1. My cholesterol level at the time was 6.7! I refused statins and advised the GP that I will bring down my cholesterol level myself. Had a blood test last week to check cholesterol levels and it's now 4.7, without having to take statins. I think gps are on commission with pharmaceutical companies to get individuals to take statins even when they don't need to!

If his cholesterol is fine, what are the statins for?
Wikipedia which I know can be wrong, says statins increase the risk of diabetes.

I will at this point tell you to buy my favourite book Grain brain by Dr Pearlmutter. (Neurologist and Nutritionist) It is on kindle or as a book. I can guarantee after reading you will never touch statins. (bit slow while it sets the basics then it blows your mind into tiny pieces)
As said dr get money for shovelling drugs into us shove back

He doesn't have to take them, I do think the GP gets extra money for this. But if his levels are fine what's the point!!

Just refuse them if you don't think you need them; it's just mass medication for the sake of it. Only those who are at high risk of heart problems etc need consider them

Go back and ask for the reason. They are there to help our health and stress caused by something like this is not healthy. Or try phoning if you would rather.
thankyou for advice ,I will phone the doctor as your right this does cause more stress not knowing what to do for the best

My husband has just been diagnosed with T2 and he was not prescribed statins. I take them for raised cholesterol myself

A book that I am reading states that statins don't prevent heart disease but if you suffer from it then statins are beneficial. They lower bad cholesterol as well as good cholesterol and the heart nutrient CQ10. Anyone still taking them should supplement the last two.
