Boredom has got the better of me. Found out that this site lists 20 varying types of diabetes.
On joining the forum people are given the option to inform others of their type of diabetes. This is obviously of great assistance to everyone. Diabetic and non diabetics alike. Knowing that someone is posting as a family member makes a huge difference to how we can answer questions and give advice for example. Knowing that a poster is T1or T2 is massively important before giving advice. Being informed of any of the other types of diabetes is probably more important still. Although not on the list, pre diabetic is also of great importance when giving advice.
Everyone has the right to keep the anonymity with respect to their status.
But why and how can we have members post as .....” other “...... what is other?
I find the type ....other.... misleading and hard to offer advise to and take advice from.
New avatar same old condition though. You have a new avatar
Would you not feel comfortable with “ diet controlled “ or “ in remission “ ?I am 'other' and it looks as if I will stay that way until someone finds a way to compress the explanation (which is explained in my profile, and included in my signature) into the section under my avatar pic on each post.
After 45 years of Reactive Hypoglycaemia, and 5 years of Type 2 Diabetes, and a lifetime of continuously tweaking my diet and drifting lower and lower carb, I went strictly Gluten Free. I found that both the raised blood glucose and the Reactive Hypoglycaemia faded away over a 6 month period. I can now tolerate moderate carbs, provided they are free of wheat and gluten. Pity I didn't discover this 40 years ago, but no use crying over spilled breadcrumbs, eh?
I can and do still hypo, but not nearly as badly, so I consider myself virtually RH free nowadays, and have chosen the 'Other' description, rather than RH or T2, pr Pre-Diabetes, or a combo, since I no longer have blood glucose readings that would entitle me to those designations (unless I eat the wrong things).
It is rotten! They have established I don’t have anti bodies but I also only produce a very little amount of my own insulin (from my c peptide test) in December. I’ve just had another c peptide test to see if my insulin production has decline even further.SB.25 That's got to be rotten. I know someone like that. She doesn't have the antibodies but makes no insulin, so they label her type 1. Sometimes she calls herself type 1.5. There is a group of people out there like that. But they don't make insulin, so they fit a type 1. She is actually a registered dietician and specializes in diabetes nutrition counseling.
Agreed. In my case Prediabetes (diet controlled) would be perfect.Would you not feel comfortable with “ diet controlled “ or “ in remission “ ?
Obviously “ cured” would be a step to far.

I thought you were referring to the list of options on joining, which does show 'Pre-diabetes' though perhaps it can't be seen on some pc browsers or mobile apps.View attachment 33336 ..
I’m not referring to the options available when new members join.
Agreed there. I came across that one a few months back.It could be useful to have the option of 2 or 3 designations - some members may have type one, yet be taking care of someone with type two - as well as being an HCP themselves.
I've seen @therower phone and well let's just say. No don't think so.
As for "misleading avatars" seeing as a few people join looking for info but not yet got a diagnosis may be from the drop down there could be something to cover that.
But yes have often wondered what "other" refers to?
It could be useful to have the option of 2 or 3 designations - some members may have type one, yet be taking care of someone with type two - as well as being an HCP themselves. Or there could be another set of things to choose from to indicate level of control, so people can easily tell if someone is struggling or has got it nailed.
Where is this ‘custom’ box. Can’t find one on the iPadI have been following this thread this morning and just had a rummage in my profile and have found a use for ‘other’. I have opted for other now and added ‘type 2 well controlled’ into the ‘custom’ box. That is the description I have always preferred rather than ‘in remission’ which I had as the next best description up until 2 minutes ago!
I see the same as youThe problem we seem to see more and more frequently is newbies not filling in their profile settings. It does actually say that the boxes for type and treatment are required. In other words, they should be filled in. This appears to be because those joining using the App can't see these boxes. We have to log in using a browser to access the website before we can see these boxes. I am getting very frustrated at having to ask newbies to do this.

I see something different from most when I open the "type" box. I see
