Mixed insulin and how does it work

Hi I have just seen my diabetes nurse and she says I'm type 2 diabetic but because I suffer from chronic pancreastes she wants to change my meds altogether, I'm on full gliclazide and 1500 metformin also 14ml background insulin (basal) now she says she thinks the metformin isn't doing anything so she wants to take me off that and also insulin and put me on mixed insulin?? What's mixed insulin and how does it work

it will be an insulin that contains within it a basal and bolus insulin, these can be split into different quantities like 60/40 or 70/30....

knowing what I know now as a type 1 I cant see how it would ever work for me, but for a type 2 who still produces their own insulin mostly, a mixed insulin should provide good results....
