Hello, I’ve been using the MySugr app since I was diagnosed. Anyone who is using it will know you have to tame your diabetes monster by getting points for logging readings.

The fun bit is you get to name your monster and I was wondering who else has done this and what name you chose?

Mine's called Lazy P. I also have the sounds disabled but tbh I'd prefer it if you could switch the monster off altogether - more screen space for the important stuff that way.

I started using but i find it easier to just write on a notepad on my phone then enter in app. What benefit does app gives instead of recording on a simple text file and then calculate average on a spread sheet

The advantage for me is recording food, reading etc anywhere. I always have my phone with me so it’s quite simple. Also the app automatically works out averages for the day, estimated hba1c and provides graph reports. Much more straightforward than doing it all separately.

I also enjoy being able to snap a picture of my meals to go alongside the readings.

I find it fun to use, I like the interface, I have a visual record of all my meals, it it’s got some clever psychological tricks to encourage you to keep testing and entering data. I also have my Libre trace uploaded into it directly from the app I record that in, so I can see what my levels are doing overnight and between scans. The pdf reports it generates are clear, visually pleasing and easy to discuss with my care team, I print them out and take them to my appointments. It also has a search function, so you can search results by tags - I find that incredibly useful, as well as the predictions of HbA1c.

I was asking a friend over there at MySugr when the data on my meter with blue toothmight be able to dump into the MySugr app. That might save a ton of time entering the stuff. We’ll Have to watch, wait, and see if they do anything with the idea.

Contour Next is Bluetooth. They use it to feed the information to a phone app.

Not sure about any Android setup, but on iPhones, if your meter can feed your data into Apple HealthKit, it can sync with MySugr.

I had it for a while and hated it. My levels are not a game and I disliked it frowning at me for 'bad' numbers that just came out of the blue.

Agree on it not being a game @Diakat but I haven't found an alternative that lets you log as much information as this one. I used One Drop for ages but you couldn't get the A1c estimate or all the little extra details in. I could smash the phone off a sharp corner sometimes when the little sod laughs and says 'some sugr'?

A number is a number. Sometimes they are good, and sometimes they are bad. The goal is to find the bad ones and fix them.

When I was a lot younger, I got tired of finding the bad numbers. So I just stopped looking for them. I don’t think that was the right answer.

The goal with MySugr was to motivate us to check. And learn. And then fix.

Maybe it could have helped me through my “ignore the number phase.”

I named mine “the Danimal”

Would you like me to see if I can get someone to talk about the goals of what that app is supposed to do? In talking with Scott Johnson, he said he just wanted to help, provoke, and to promote bd logging, which was something he said he personally struggled with. He’s really a fun guy.
