Hi guys just started this thread being as I can't find the original on I commented on in the past.
Went to the doctors today because I am suffering with massive mood swings and with it an uncontrollable rage, I had to do something before I done something silly because of it.

Anyway this may be a bit long winded so here goes

On the 17 January 2013 I was due to go to the doctors as I seemed to be drinking a lot and peeing a lot. Organised to be back in the yard and finished about 2 hours before my appointment time. But being as it was one of the worst winters we have had for many years and being a truck driver at the time things worked out that I never made it back to the yard in time and it took me an hour and a half to drive home as well. So I missed my doctors appointment anyway. So I was home for a long weekend and I was drinking even more and peeing even more. Until we came to Sunday night and I barely slept as every time I got to sleep I was up again for a pee I had a full bladder every 45 mins. And I was drinking around 10 litres of fluids a day and the same at night. When I got up on Monday morning to go in to work I was exhausted and I had terrible back pain. So being as I had a Barry South Wales to Liverpool run I didn't feel safe to do this so I rang in sick. And at 08:00 I got my partner to make me an appointment with the doctor, which it went to but as I was pondering what was wrong with me I realised it wasn't my back playing up, but it was my kidneys aching. So went to the doctor told him what was wrong. At this point he gave me a pee bottle, and sent me to provide him with a sample. Which I did when I came back in he did a test with a stick and immediately booked me in for a blood test the following morning and told me to fast for this one. So I was sent on my way. The following morning I couldn't drive the car due to the amount of snow on the ground. So being as the surgery is about a mile away I decided to walk over to the surgery. Whe I get there it's the normal booking in and wait. I had barely sat down when I was called in for my bloods to be taken. That's when the nurse just looked at me and asked "are you asthmatic?" I looked at her and said I'm meant to be yes why? She said I want you to have tests done on your chest!!!! So I hung around to have these tests done. Having these tests done I went home for a couple of days only to get a phone call from the doctor saying " ah john how are you feeling your not dead yet?" Which I was shaken by this and I had been summoned to his office the following day. ( sorry guys I got a job yo keep my eyes open if you want more then l carry on tomorrow

Sorry just posted on its own
Emphysema in old money, so a double whammy on the same day, and just to add insult to injury I had high keytones and at 41 it could be type1 or type2 so more blood tests for a ngad test to check what type as it works out they had to repeat the blood test over the next few weeks as they either put it in wrong colour slip or wrong colour bottle or even both. Any way put on the normal metformin and I was ok for 2 days and then it started the most awful wind and runs I gave ever had but it went after a week I made a lot of changes and the full fat coke went and changes in my diet. Due to my job at the time I successfully argued my case for testing, I was self testing and my bs never seemed to come down, so was put on to gliclizide, and upped my metformin and bad stomach again went back a wee later and lost about a stone in weight at the time, but bloods wasn't coming down, so dn rang the local hospital and the diabetes clinic, they had a chat and was told to go to the clinic first thing the next morning. Next morning I go to the clinic and greeted by the nicest people I have ever met, nothing was to much trouble and spent most of the day there for tests and talk to the dietician. As it works out I was referred to a diabetes specialist, and put on to maximum doses of metformin and gliclizide had to declare to VOSA and the rest of the things. I was still self testing and my bloods still wasn't dropping. And in April I saw the diabetes specialist and he put me on Victoza and as if it was a miracle I took my first dose and the next morning I had normal bloods. At last something that worked but I was still getting spikes so more changes needed tried to change things but struggling. And then it all went wrong the Victoza stopped working and I went in to what I call renal mode which is the unquenchable thirst. And peeing a lot so my appointment with specialist was about 2 weeks away so I hung on till I saw him but I was feeling iller and iller, I will carry on after I get back from seeing the mrs in hospital later

Hi I'm back part 3 lol
So I just make it through to see my diabetes specialist and to be honest I wasn't surprised what happened I had keytones again but they were at the highest level they could be on the key stick things. And the specialist said I don't mean any disrespect but there is more of you than there was last time and he wasn't offensive he wasn't rude he was honest and non judgemental. And it is so nice not to be judged, and he just looked at me and said you know what this means don't you? I answered with a simple yes I'm going to lose my LGV as I have to go on to insulin. He simply just looked at me and said yes unfortunately you do, I will sort it out with the dn for me and write your prescription out for you and the nurse will see you soon. Even though I wasn't surprised to have to go on insulin, but was still shocked. I was waiting for the nurse to see me and I got called in and they gave me an insulin shot there and then, and was told that my prescription was being picked up for me on the other side of the hospital, and fair play they are fantastic. I started off with a low dose of insulin I think it was 12u am and 16u pm. I am no at 60u am and 56u pm and I'm only going up with it but I'm not controlling things as well as I could since being on insulin. But this isn't the biggest problem since I have been on insulin in September my moods have been getting darker and my mood swings are getting worse and I mean I flip at near enough nothing. And things are getting worse me and my partner have almost split up over it a few times. So a week last Saturday me and my partner had our biggest bust up and she walked out of the house saying it was over and she couldn't cope any more, it was at that moment I knew I went to far. I chased her up the road asking her to come back home and told her I couldn't keep going like it any more. And I promised I would try and get help. So Monday morning I rang the doctors and made an appointment for yesterday to see about this. In the mean time after I made the appointment my partner had her ESA stopped due to Capitol she did have 2 years ago, and found out that they have now stopped all her money, and then my grandmother died over the weekend and then yesterday my partner had to go in to hospital because of her Crohn's disease. So I went to the doctor before taking Sarah to the hospital and to be honest the doctor couldn't have been better. She just sat and listened to everything I gad to say, and she said that I am very depressed and how can she help or what am I expecting. And I said I don't know what I want I just need help. And she just looked at me and said the easy answer is to put you on tablets. But that's not going to help and so she has referred me to mental health to get me assed first and then go from there. I'm not looking for sympathy or empathy at all. But when I told the doctor that I was a member of this forum and between you all there is always someone to give advice or help. She simply said good it's a good forum and they will try and help you. So that is my diabetes story so far and my mental health at a beginning. I don't know if you want to be bothered with my experience from here on in or if I should just kill the thread after this.

I'm more than happy to listen. It might help you a lot to write it all down .... I know how moods can affect diabetics. Plus your moods will get better ( I think) as you get your BGs down. You have to give it time to get used to the insulin and the doses. Ask your partner to understand in the meantime. But it sounds like she has her own troubles too. It can't be easy for either of you.

Do you think you will try tablets for your moods.. It's worth thinking about, especially as it affects other people, whom you love.

also... as people get to read all your story they will be able to offer you advise. They will come! :)

I suffer with severe depression and anxiety so i do understand mental health issues... don't be afraid to mention them.
No-one is going to judge you in any way, shape or form.

Sarah is very understanding she has been through it all as well and stood by my side. We are already fighting this ESA thing as it is crazy. Things will get better but I a on new territory with this I wasn't expecting advice or anything like that but I have realised that I'm not the only one that feels this way with diabetes. This was more about getting things off my chest so as I can start to move forward and not be bitter and twisted and feel the world owes me something. And to let others know that they are not alone out there

Most assuredly you are not the only one with mood swings affected by Diabetes.... esp. when one's sugars are high. We humans are a finely tuned machines with a magnificent combination of raging hormones coursing through our veins... one of which is insulin, and they're not all in perfect measure so something has to give.

Rest assured, it will get better. Your moods will improve... hang on in there.

Oh good. You seem to have all bases covered. Just take one step at a time... keep us updated pls.
Try to discover some calming techniques that you can use for when you feel exasperated ; no matter how bizarre they need to be!! It could help a lot :)

Ignorant people, diabetes!
You've had a hell of a lot to cope with, I'm not surprised you're having mood swings. Fair play for getting it sorted out, but cut yourself some slack too.

I'll keep reading if you keep the thread going

Well you've taken the first step, and it's often said that the first step is the hardest. Small steps = small victories. And don't forget there's always people here willing to listen and help
