wake up some mornings feeling nauseous, breathless, extreme fatigue especially in the legs, stomach feeling generally upset.
feeling of swelling/ hot pins and needles in hands and feet (pretty convinced its water retention)
blood sugars are fine, both before bed and on waking, checking during night as well.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this before, i cant find any info online about similar symptoms .

Hi @sugarfree92

Firstly, welcome to the forums!

Are you a T1, T2? What meds are you on?

It is difficult to diagnose symptoms on a forum and the standard advice will always be - go see your doctor.

Having said that, I've read many posts where people report problems with tiredness and fatigue, especially in the legs. I myself used to be able to climb 4 flights of stairs at work without any problems but I get muscle burn very quickly in the legs now. I don't know why this happens so will be interested to read what others say.

I also saw some conjecture recently that some of the symptoms you described could be an allergy to aspartame - so if you're drinking a lot of sugar free drinks you might want to try backing off for a while and see if it helps.

But as I said at the start, please think about going to the doc with these symptoms.

Absolutely - first port of call is the doctor's to rule out other conditions.

I don't know if this is at all relevant to you, but I had awful tiredness and weakness long with muscles that ached after doing hardly anything, and I found that it was great,y improved by coming off Humalog. There has been a suggestion that some people don't do well on analogues and have symptoms such as GI upset, fatigue and muscle pains.

I trialled a porcine insulin to see if it made any difference and felt much, much better in a few days.

Just another thing to consider or rule out :)

Thanks @urbanracer
Im type one for nearly ten years, i rarely consume sweeteners i would sooner just have sugar, i never noticed a correlation with aspartame and fatigue, but ill keep an eye out.
i haven't had much luck with doctors really,
Im going to book another appointment for tomorrow anyway, have a few other issues to raise as well.

@azure
I am currently on humalog and a bovine background insulin, switching to the natural insulin i did notice improvements in sleeping patterns and no more aching muscles at night, i have been thinking about switching to a fast acting natural insulin aswell.

@sugerfree92 I use a pump, so I have Hypurin Porcine Neutral in there. I found that a big improvement and my HbA1C wasn't affected at all.

Weirdly, when I was on MDI, I used Actrapid and didn't notice any problems with that. I'd never used animal insulins until I swapped to the porcine a couple of years ago. It shows that we're all different and that different insulins suit different people.

I hope your appointment goes well.

Hey I suffer quite bad from fatigue it's always been an issues from pre diagnosis for me. Definitely what the guys said check with doctor for other conditions. Keep reading levels can help but I personally find the fatigue is still there. I have tried all sorts but yet to find an answer. I find what improves the fatigue is the following diet not having fatty heavy or sugar food/drinks, giving my self permission to nap( I am only29 so can be a struggle) and reducing any kind of stress hope you find A solution soon for you

People telling me how to control my diabetes. My health. Isms. People walking their dogs off leads in illegal areas. Meat that bleeds. Late buses.
I'm female just to...let you know in context. It could be that you have dawn phenomenon but your insulin is bringing you down eventually but you still feel worn out. I would test your bloods closer to the time you wake up to see if you rise there. Otherwise see your general gp as outside of that I can't think of a diabetic reason for it if you feel better later in the day.
