"Most Popular" addition

I don't wan to sound swelfish but my poor eyes can't cope with his. Retinopathy is a well known diabees complicaion and I know I am not the only one to suffer or I wouldn't mention it.

I will come back in a weeek when it has all setled . Au revoir folks!

Some flippin' daft widget driving posters away, this is not on!! I don't have retinopathy, but it's effecting my eyes as well. Do we, the posters here count for anything? Please get rid of it!!

Reading the above comments I would hazard a guess that this is actually the "least popular" addition to the forum. It puts me in mind of the Nat West bank telling me that market research had told them that "most people" wanted the recorded menus they had installed to answer phone enquiries before it was common place, I dont think anyone in their right mind would opt for a recorded menu that never gives you the option you want over a real person to deal with your inquiry. just as it doesnt look as though anyone actually wants these adverts for the main site on the forum.

Whilst it can be turned off this is only true if one is logged in and as I regularly scan the forum without logging in it will remain to be extremely annoying for me and possibly anyone else who is either not logged in or not a member.

I realise that you want more people to look at your adverts on the main DUCK site but that is not why I and I suspect many others use a public forum, whoever is hosting it.

I dont know what all the fuss is about TBH. I use IE9 and when I first logged in the MP box was there. I hit the arrow on the right hand side of the screen and it vanished. I am able to hide or unhide at will?

Is this maybe a problem because of the browsers that people use? I have no problem with it but obviously there are many that do. Maybe Admin can sort this out, as Sid says it appears to be 'most unpopular.' Most of the people here just want a forum to read and post, not a place full of adverts. Over to you Admin!

At the risk of sounding completely stupid, can someone tell me what a widget is?

Does it only apply if using mobile phones for the internet ?(I don't do that...cos I don't know how to  )

Does this change affect using a normal PC or laptop? My screen keeps changing size, I assume it's something to do with all this!!!

Hi Choco, yes it's to do with that. The widget is a devise added to the forum to give us the option not to have adverts. A good idea in practice, but this new UN popular thing is effecting people's eyes. If the widget was removed the forum would go back to how it was earlier today.

Hi everyone - the tech guys have gone home today so I'll get them to sort it so that there's no flickering if you switch it off! We'll also try and debug any errors highlighted on this thread tomorrow!

Apologies for the inconvenience. We'll do our best to sort it out! :)

A widget is basically a small stand alone program, connected to another program.. It basically gather's information from within the program or externally from the program and display said information in the program you are using, without interring with that program!

It's like the whether temperatures things that you can display on your desktop from the internet.. A widget...

I'm use Chrome browser..

But it's right irritating that every time you navigate to a new page, you've got to wait for the page to adjust to the widget being hidden..

Could you switch it off in the meantime - I can't switch it off on Google Chrome and I don't want to have to change browsers

I endorse all of the members who want to get rid - it is annoying me considerably - I thought I was on a Forum not a 'merry go round'

I'll add my 2 penworth - its really annoying. It's not novel it gets in the way of reading.

Hi Admin

I am in Firefox and the most popular widget and ads are appearing underneath threads and posts and not to the right hand side of the screen.

I have a big white gap to the right and a long way to scroll to click the quick reply button :D

Hi all - just to let you know it now doesn't flicker. So, if you set it off, it's off.

@s230787 - can you try refreshing - the forum has its own 'cache' (whatever that is) so it needs refreshing.

If anyone is having any problems - please let us know as the tech guys are in the building!

I am on firefox too and I dont know how to "refresh" Help ! This is very annoying and most of us want to turn it off so what is the point?
