Hi, my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 nearly 11 years ago now. Really could do with making friends with other parents with children the same age or older for some support /advice as our Diabetic team/s have been very little support over the years and I am struggling to cope pretty much alone. My daughter is quite popular at school but no friends come around or invite her out or to theirs so like me she is feeling pretty isolated. Will look forward to meeting new friends with hints and tips on what is/has worked for them and their kids. Don't mind if you are male or female by the way.

Hi Pammy.
Welcome to the Forum. There is a section here entitled 'Diabetes Youth Club' where many of the Mom's & Dad's 'hang out'.

A very helpful bunch from all over the place. I am sure if you post in there with any specific questions you will get much help and support.

Here's a link to get you there.......

Hi Pammy

There's a 15-year-old just diagnosed Type 1 called Linkinparkfan who is feeling a bit isolated and could possibly do with a friendly word from someone who understands. If you look at the New Posts bit he's recently posted a query. Only if you feel like it! you don't need anyone else's problems, I'm sure.

I'm a fairly newly diagnosed Type 2, and am finding this forum a great help - a lot of knowledgeable, experienced, helpful people. Welcome!

My child with T1 is young but my other child is 16 and just got a Learner's Permit to drive. It is always good to chat with other parents. We are such a worrying lot so it is good to vent our frustrations while leaving our children thinking we've got it all under control.

Hi Pammy

Im a 19 year old girl, who has been diagnosed for 10 years now, im open for chat whenever. Ive been through it all, good and bad.

Hi,

My daughter has just today been diagnosed with diabetes. Not sure which sort yet but probs T1.

Still in a bit of shock but glad there is some sort of answer for all her problems.

Hopefully I'll have some answers later this week :)

Love and hugs for all - parenting is tricky enough with teenagers, throw in type 1 diabetes and it is at times exhausting, frustrating and resillience is required in abundance. If I can offer any support just hollow x
My son is 15 and was diagnosed 5 days before he was 13. He does really well and has continued with his passion of ice hockey and plays the piano to a high standard. Despite this, on occasions he does have down days. On down days I take over all the practicalities that having type 1 entails. Zac's type 1 diabetes is well controlled and I think the ingredient is to treat it as a partnership between us. He starts pumping tomorrow, it has been a real battle to get him a pump from the very reactive PCT. Upwards-onwards xx
