Muscle cramps

Are muscle cramps common with diabetes? How do you treat them?

In hot weather I used to get cramps at night. I found that when they happened, I needed quite a lot of water to make them go away, but day to day I needed salt, as I was not having any.
Since being strict about adding a pinch of salt a day I have not had any cramps.

Occasionally, I wake myself up in the night with cramp.
For me, this is a good indication that my blood sugar levels are too high.

However, as if often said, we are all different.

Very helpful, indeed; high blood sugar may have happened some days before taking the morning number though?

Sorry, I don't understand your comment. I suspect you missed a typo (I know, I often do)
I will aways take my blood sugars when I wake in the night - I usually wake when they are too high or too low.

Sorry. I'll try again. For example: if your diet was high in sugar on Day 1, can it take a couple of days or more to show an increase on Day 3;

Sorry, as I have Type 1, things are different for me.
I suspect the best way to check is to test your blood sugars - we are all different.

After I had been diagnosed with diabetes about 14 years ago, I was getting lots of cramps in my legs. Nowadays, I only occasionally get cramps in my hands.
