Hi to all,

My blood sugars have come down with insulin and slow release metformin.
But when i eat again they go bk up so surley if i didnt eat food they would stay down yeah.
N they never go below 10 mmol.

Solution to high blood sugars dont eat i might loose some weight then lol.

Unfortunately, our BG value is affected by more than what we eat. It is also affected by weather, time of day, stress, illness, drugs, exercise, ... and probably more.
So, there is no point in starving yourself as something else will cause your BG to rise anyway.
I recommend @Mr_Pot 's advise to review what you eat and try something else. Everyone is different to what impacts their BG but many people finding reducing the amount of carbohydrates they eat helps reduce their BG.

Type 2 on diet & Exercise regime. I used to eat the same foods after I was diagnosed 2yrs ago as I did prior to diagnosis. Then I did the type 2 testing programme & was getting results I could not believe. As from 1st of this month I commenced a low carb diet & commenced testing on a daily basis & in these first few days of the month my BGs have stabilised & are rarely ov
6 - 6.5The lowest being pre meal 5.6 & the highest Post meal8,5 & 9.3 these being on the first two days but no post BGs were more than 2 up on pre.

Hi @Diligent500 .. and welcome
I'm not sure whether you have been given a test meter by your Doc or Nurse, or if you are testing your blood sugar levels but, if not, it is a top priority that you get yourself a meter and, for this, the following websites might help:
https://homehealth-uk.com/product-category/blood-glucose/
for the SD Codefree meter, which costs £12.98 or:
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/tee2-blood-glucose-meter/
who distribute the TEE 2 meter, which is free.
I have both which I alternate for comparative purposes and I have never found any significant difference between them.

The costs of testing comes down to the ongoing charges for test strips and lancets. Make sure that you tick the appropriate box on the on-line order form and you won't pay VAT on your meter or strips.
For the SD Codefree, the strips are £7.69 for a pack of 50 and there are discount codes available for bulk purchases:
5 packs x 50 use code: 264086 .. cost is £29.49
10 packs x 50 use code: 975833 .. cost is £58.98
For the TEE 2, the strips are £7.75 for a pack of 50 .. but there are no discount codes currently available

I'm testing 4-5 times a day .. my fasting blood sugar, then immediately before meals and two hours afterwards. This enables me to monitor trends in my blood sugar levels over time and to check which (if any) foods give me "spikes". This costs between £10 to £12 a month for either of the two meters above but, more importantly, I now know what my levels are .. and I can now manage them

Hope this helps

One of the few bits of research done on Atkins diets - with a handful of overweight teenagers, gave the result that the amounts of fat lost over a few weeks on low carb was higher than the fat lost with low calorie.
I think that the weight loss was about the same, but when body fat was analysed the percentage drop was higher on Atkins.
It is not something seen very often, where a diet can actually target body fat.
I have found since diagnosis that my waist has shrunk significantly - I saw that there has been another alteration this morning, putting on a skirt I made which has an overlap, and the fastenings are now fully overlapping and it needs to be remade, again, smaller on the waist.
There is a suspicion that our bodies react differently to a perceived shortage of foods than to a change in the constituents of diet with shortages causing a slow down and a retention of fat - which is just the opposite of the desired outcome.
