Well done for resisting. I've got some oppo in the freezer but don't want my kids to know it's in there so may have a midnight feast! Or save it for tomorrow. I'm going to have to make room in freezer so that I can make low carb ice pops or something. Never gonna get through the summer without something!

I don't think I would surviver a glucose tolerance test. But in addition to the cholesterol , I'm going to have a buncha immune tests so kinda worried about whether blood hemolyzes in the bod as well as the test tube?
What do you drink on fasting days? also how long do you fast?
Dr. Fung also cites studies about artificial sweetener's increasing insulin although they don't affect blood sugar. He says that they can push it up 20%. I don't know how much you have to have to get that result though. If you're really working on your insulin resistance then the diet stuff could be counterproductive. And it's a myth that Stevia is different he says. Good marketing I guess. I find it's harder to give up sweetener in my coffee and iced tea than it was to give up bread! But your success is amazing, so you must be doing great workDid you see " trust me i'm a doctor last night debmcgee, they are saying that the artificial sweetners in it are bad causing more people to get diabetes....ho hum or pre diabetes.

This morning I got 5.7 and I'm 36 hours into my spontaneous longer fast. Had a few pangs over night and did not sleep as well as I would normally but it's been totally bearable. My mum is coming to stay for a few days as its my eldest daughter's 8th birthday. Mum likes to eat put a lot so this could be hard.....
TGI Fridays is for the birthday lunch tomorrow. Today, I reckon it'll be something like Harvester and then on Sunday she wants to go to this fab dessert place where they make the most amazing waffles with ice cream. I was planning on fasting for that but it's torture. I'd actually really prefer not to go at all but I can't really...
I'm feeling a lot healthier.
I also calculated what my pain doctor's goal weightloss for me would amount to - it's going to be a long slog but I'm definitely prepared to give it a go. I'm still focussing on 10kg increments and currently am 3 away from the next block. I've a lot of kids stuff to get through over the summer but really want to stick to losing a kilo a week. I'd be gutted if I undid all this hard work but life has to continue. That's the worst part of this journey. We have it for life and will never be free from it.
Have a wonderful day y'all. I'm so glad weather is cooler and sun is hiding behind a cloud. Makes such a difference!
I'm planning on going out for civilised drinks with my friend tonight - not been out for 3 months! Again, I will not go wild...

Well done Kevin that is absolutely fantastic - I'm green with envy (in the nicest way) of your 29 - I'd love to be that low. It really is worth changing your lifestyle isn't it. LCHF is definitely the way to go, there is no way I would ever want to go back to my former carb laden diet.Well done on nudging up your IF length
You are being consistent in the midst of a busy life
I am only 3 months post diagnosis and my second A1C came in at 29. It was originally 53 and all I've done is permanently changed my lifestyle to one you have adopted

Ha, ha. Starvation mode Like your attitude to your real world friends. Pity they wouldn't do a bit of research for themselves and find out the benefits of low carb / intermittent fasting. I imagine most people could benefit from it.@Lizzie2. Wow you've done great! I too tested everything I've eaten and built my meals around what impact they have on my bg. It really is the only way to tell what you're doing to yourself. I like watching Fung when he talks about docs berating patients for not improving health after following advice that is destined to fail. That's been me my whole life (without the docs) and I'm going to beat it.
I wanted to check body stats this morning following the extended fast. It's interesting - the pound I've lost overnight has come from lean mass and not body fat. I wasn't shocked - I've not been weight lifting for a week due to heat and also read it in Fung's book that it will sort itself out after 48 hours and continue to use fat stores instead of muscle. I've got a few of my real-world friends telling me I'll go into starvation mode etc and I just can't be ***** to explain the research so just listen to them bash on about it. They should really know me better than that!! I'm well read and don't make substantial changes without a lot of consideration!
