My low carb/IF Diet - BG and progress

I've got better than a wheat bag - I have the best heated mattress cover ever! So good in fact that it made my pain so much more bearable last year but alas, not this year. I think it's because of my job running around in school all day long....

I'm actually looking forward to finding out my blood results...I may take that back after the appointment tho....

So did good food wise today:

L: crayfish salad (I forgot to take avacado with me to work so it was a bit of a disappointment!!), cheesecake fluff with two strawberries. NO COKE - just H2O

S: 6 Brazil's, babybel

D: bacon and scrambled eggs. Tea.

I'm so tired today. I'm
Debating whether to double up on tramadol tonight to just get a good block of sleep...

Hi Debmcgee, just a quick line, neuropathy be wary of keeping affected areas too warm
If you have diabetes and your blood sugar is high, the body loses fluid, causing your skin to become dry. This occurs because the body is turning the water into urine to remove the excess sugar from the blood. Your skin can also get dry if the nerves, especially those in your legs and feet, do not get the message to sweat (because of diabetic neuropathy). Sweating helps keep your skin soft and moist.

In addition, dry skin can become red and sore, and can crack and peel. Germs can enter through the cracks in your skin and cause an infection. Dry skin usually is itchy, and scratching can lead to breaks in the skin and infection.

As many as one-third of people with diabetes will have a skin condition related to their diabetes at some time in their lives. Fortunately, most skin conditions can be prevented and successfully treated if caught early. But if not cared for properly, a minor skin condition can turn into a serious problem with potentially severe consequences.

Tips to help you care for your skin if you have diabetes:

Protect skin from the elements. To protect your skin from the sun, use sun creams with at least SPF15 or

To protect your skin from the cold or wind, cover your ears and face, including your nose, and wear a hat. Also wear warm gloves and shoes or boots.
Apply lip balm to prevent chapped lips.
To prevent dry skin when the temperature drops, consider using a room humidifier to add moisture to heated, indoor air.
When bathing or showering, use warm (not hot) water and a mild, moisture-containing soap.
Avoid bathing in hot water.
Avoid taking long baths or showers.
Pat your skin dry; do not rub.
After washing and drying your skin, apply a mild lotion to prevent dry skin.
Avoid scratching dry skin. Apply moisturiser instead.
Keep a bottle of lotion near the basin so you can use it after washing your hands.
Limit products you use on your skin to decrease your chances of having a reaction.
If you are prone to acne, talk to your doctor before selecting a facial moisturiser. Some moisturisers tend to make acne worse. Use products labelled non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic.

Hi there, after posting on here a couple of days ago (being new to LCHF), I have spent my time doing lots of research, reading lots of posts etc and am starting to get my head around this new way of eating. The problem is I keep getting really hungry and snacking (low carb of course). Today is the worst it's been. I finished my lunch 30 minutes ago (an avocado, prawn cocktail and iceberg lettuce) but my stomach is growling so loud and I could eat the contents of the fridge (although what I really want is toast ). Is this normal? Also I am due my period, could this be a factor? Btw this forum is a god send!!

Yes, this is perfectly normal. The body is used to you snaffling carbs regularly, and the cravings are its way of saying FEED ME!

The best solution to these cravings is to eat more fat - even if you want to lose weight, add in the fat for a few days until the cravings subside, then ease off to whatever fat level you feel is sustainable.

The fat is so satisfying and filling that the cravings are crushed. :)

LC suggestions that will do this for you are
cheese
low carb hot choc (cocoa powder, cream and sweetener)
mayo (I would have added more mayo to your prawn cocktail salad :) )
Nuts
small portion of berries, large portion of cream
Choosing fattier cuts of meat
eating the skin on chicken...

What Brun said

Don't be scared of fat and drink lots of water. I am rubbish at that part!!

Pork scratchings are good and a babybel with a couple salami slices are also a nice snack.

X

As you get into it, you'll start not wanting to eat as you're so fulfilled with low carb!!! It's the only diet when I've actually eaten less but felt happily satisfied

Today I was on s training course so had to go slightly off piste but think I was in good control...

L: McDonald double cheeseburger bun removed X 2. 4 Brazil nuts.

D: crayfish salad with avacado. Water. Strawberries and cream.

I've decided not to do much for my 40th so I'm going to buy myself to some snazzy scales that track progress and statistics to an iPhone! I'd rather have that than waste it on a big meal, booze and any other type of debauchery when I'm on the wagon and doing so well.....I'll go to breakfast with my kids and a friend and that will be it!

Ps. Still no Diet Coke!! I'm excited to see if it makes any difference.

Over and out.

Deb - I don't know if you have chosen your scales yet, but if not you might like to consider these?

http://www.omron-healthcare.com/en-gb/products/weightmanagement

I bought these a few months after diagnosis (I didn't weigh myself for the first four months), and they're excellent. They don't have a bluetooth connection to my phone, but they do seem very stable.

If you are going for a body composition monitor, they are far more accurate the more sensors they have. As you will not, the scales I have have hand drips as well as the foot pads. I tend to use them day-to-day just be stepping on, but when I want to check out things other than weight, I pick up the hand grips.

Ooh they look good but I really want a data sending one that I can create a spreadsheet to track progress. I do love a spreadsheet....xxxx

Had to get up at 4am as lying down hurt too much. FBG 6.3 so it's coming down. Did lots of walking yesterday which I think must have done something. I'm going to try and match around the playground during break time! X

Omg - really suffering with my kids today. Had drama all day at work then parents evening at my children's school. Eldest has been in a meltdown for 45 mins and youngest has been milking the stresses situation for all its worth.

This is the day where I'd reach for the chocolate and self sabotage. I didn't tho - made dinner and carried on regardless. I'm so drained but am not going to let young kids get me down so that I overeat or make bad choices. I must be strong!

So I'm going to get to bed ASAP so this day is done.....

L: crayfish avacado salad, cheesecake fluff, 2 strawberries. Water.

D: bacon and scrambled eggs, tea. Babybel cheddar.

And hopefully that's it!

Day three of being Diet Coke free....
