My RH journey

I do not have diabetes
I first posted on the general diabetic thread, as I was having difficulty finding information. (post-2712919) I didn't know there was a dedicated RH forum at that time.

After receiving great support, (thx @Lamont and others), I now thought it would be best to update where I am today on the correct forum, maybe my experience will help others.

I am not diabetic last A1c test July was 43mmol, a nightmare to get a Drs appointment, got past the receptionist and agreed telephone appointment with Dr. Which failed, as now there is a 2nd line of defence called a Triage Nurse who decides whether your condition warrants a Dr's call back! Triage nurse called me instead! and didn't believe my Hypo's as I wasn't diabetic and not on medication. I asked her what her speciality was, it was sprains etc l:banghead:. Eventually I got a Dr call back. The NHS is not broken, but the GP surgeries sure seem as they are!

Dr was totally against me from the start, as I had self funded a Libre2, because I assumed (wrongly) I had suddenly turned 48mmol, and was worried what was happening to me.
I was told I should not have one, as they are only for diabetics? Dr wanted 2 weeks of fingerpick readings before I would be referred-- so I did just that, with a photo of each event under 3.5 (just to show it was true! ) and notes of what food and drink for each day.
I was advised on lows by Dr, to take some jellies and a bit of carb or choc bar and orange juice .
Thats when the fun started, it got worse spikes and lows.
After 2 weeks of torture, Emailed log to Drs and requested being referred to Endocrinology, I am now on a 18 week waiting list and still no FtoF with Dr!
Endocrinology sent me a standard letter for blood tests, Drs surgery never got the results, they weren't on NHS app, so had to call Endocrinology Secretary and insisted they were copied to me.All within range except 2 which were just outside the minimum range and Endocrinology passed them as normal and classified my referral to be down graded to routine!

I was getting very worried by now, tried to get appointments privately (Norfolk & Cambridge etc) but all Endo Consultants were booked solid 6-8 week wait--- what's going on?

Finally got a cancellation 90 mins drive away, Consultant immediately put me at ease, shared diet information and confirmed changing diet to low carb was the correct way and try not to use jellies etc unless still going south at 3.4. He diagnosed RH and also put me on Metformin and if Hypos continue next step would be a synacthen test?

I do wonder if it could have been a triggered by having cortisol injections 1 in May for trigger finger and 1 each wrist for carpel tunnel in June. Who really knows?

I was surprised at Metformin as only ever thought T2's were on that drug, but 2 weeks in, it's really gradually getting better, and so far no side effects from Metformin either.
All this and still no FtoF with a Dr at my local surgery!

Hi @FinishedWithEngines ,
And thanks for the thanks.
Dear me, it does seem that the NHS is broken in so many ways.
Is there any chance you can change your surgery?

Can I say how surprised how the metformin is doing, my endo took me off the drug straight away after our second appointment.

I also wouldn't be surprised that your cortisol levels, injections could be responsible. As could be the usual suspects of RH, yeah!
Without the proper tests and an endocrinologist, you are in limbo.
If it is RH, I would still continue with the food diary, the idea behind low carb is to stop the reactions from happening. And keep using your CGM.
I'm still bewildered that either a mixed meal test or an extended (five hours) glucose tolerance test, wasn't ordered if the consultant says it is RH. How does he know?
So many metabolic conditions, have the same variants of symptoms.

I have had the injections, but I fasted beforehand and checked my levels after.
I had the op for the carpal tunnel, and a complete success, I had a local which is more beneficial afterwards regarding BG levels.

Keep us updated.
I wish you well.
