Type 2 My sugars are spiking

Today I had chia seeds in water with salt, egg omelet with tomatoes and chopped onion, avacado salad and coconut chutney. My sugar spiked to 120mg/dl in 39mins. Then dropped to 115mg/dl @40mins., 1hour 10mins- 97mg/dlWhatsApp Image 2023-02-01 at 11.07.04 AM.jpeg
What is the reason? is my phase1 insulin not working properly? severe insulin resistance?

120mg/dl is 6.7 mmol/l. Within normal range after eating, even though you tested after only 39 minutes.

I think what is happening here is that you eat something with a few carbs in it (eg the tomato and onion definitely have carbs, and I'd guess the coconut chutney might too) and as would be expected this is digested and your BGs rise a bit. Then your insulin starts doing its thing and brings down your blood glucose levels.

I expect to see the sort of pattern ypou describe when I eat, and I am not concerned by it. I get a limited small rise and a rapid return to baseline, which is what seems to be happening with you. This is NOT spiking, this is a fairly normal response. So, on these figures, I wouldn't jump to thinking I had a problem with phase 1 insulin or severe insulin resistance, because a non-diabetic person would probably show pretty much the same sort of response.

This is good news!

It looks as if your BG level would be quite normal at the 2 hour mark, which is exactly what you want.
 
Thank you for responding. Maybe I shouldn't worry too much as of now.
My today's lunch @1.19pm is rohu fish, grated carrot fry, avacado salad, red amaranth fry.
1.41pm(20mins)- 101mg/dl, 1.52pm(30mins) - 107mg/dl, 2.19pm(1hour)- 111mg/dl, 2.22pm(1 hour , 3mins)- 107, 2.35pm(1hour, 15mins)- 103mg/dl

I think I will need insulin soon to manage my blood sugars. My mother is diabetic and has end stage renal failure. I might be going the same way. I may not be able to keep normal blood sugars with diet and exercise alone.

I will convert your readings into mmol/L because that's what we use in the UK

Your lowest result 97mg/dl is 5.4mmol/L
Your highest result 120mg/dl =6.7mmol/L
The middle one of 115mg/dl =6.4mmol/L
So the difference between your highest and lowest numbers is just 1.3 mmol/L. A perfectly normal rise, when we eat our blood sugar will rise, that's just how things work.
All meters are only accurate to plus/minus 15%

so for example if your meter gave a result of 108mg/dl (6mmol)
Your actual level could be any where between 127.1(7.06) and 91.8 (5.1)
As you can see all of your results fall within this range so could be considered to be the same reading.
In other words a perfect low carb meal that had basically no effect on your levels.

I agree 100% with @catinahat. Those numbers look fine, absolutely normal, and I'd be happy to have them. Congratulations on managing your condition so well. You are testing a lot, though, and it can make some people feel overly anxious.

I don't see why you think you would need insulin soon. To me it looks like you are managing well on the basis of your current lifestyle and the BG numbers you're quoting. Yes there can be a genetic component to T2 but it is by no means inevitable.

In the UK as a T2 you wouldn't ever be prescribed insulin on the basis of the information and numbers you're showing now.
