Type 2 Need a meter.

hi guys, does anyone know how to set the date and time on the SD codefree meter? I got mine off Amazon about 4 weeks ago and I still haven't figured out how to, even though am sure I am following the instructions. It is really frustrating, as I also bought the cable that transfers the information to your PC, but all the data is showing incorrect date/time.. help.. thanks

Lots of us multiuse the lancets, I use them until the jab hurts maybe a week. For disposal I bend the pin of the lancet then put it in my normal rubbish, it's ok to do that

that's brilliant help thankyou. its also very time consuming putting in a fresh one each time, espically when at work and trying to get out with things, with out drawing attention to myself

Didn't you get an instruction booklet with your meter, I still have mine somewhere but can't put my hand on it immediately. If nobody helps out I will try and post it at some point
 
Hi guys, yes I do have the booklet and was following the instructions as per the booklet but for some reason, the buttons I was instructed to press and hold down wasn't giving me the screen that I should have been viewing. I think I have a faulty meter, as a few days ago it informed me that my battery was low and it would not turn on at all. Imagine my shock, as I had only recently purchased it how could a lithium battery go so quickly? Ok, so I have been a bit OCD with the testing like at least 5 times a day, but surely it shouldn't go that quickly. So couldn't test on Saturday, then I tried turning it on on Sunday and hey presto it came on again! I did have to toggle the battery a bit, before it came on. I was also able to set the date and time this evening, but not according to the booklet instructions. When I pressed and held down the ON/OFF for the 3 seconds, the display to show the setting for the audible beep wasn't visible. I spent the entire past month holding down the ON/OFF button for the recommended 3 seconds and all it kept showing was previous test results!! Again I had to toggle the battery a few times before it finally did what it was suppose to do.. @joshua09 and @poohtiggy let me know how you get on and if that works.
 
Just been diagnosed with insulin resistance. Starting metformin after GP appointment today. Hoping they'll supply me with a meter etc. Having regular hypos at night. Hence why I'm awake. Fortunate my dog wakes me when I'm going hypo.

thankyou so much for this! mine is now set! I had the same problem, its just kept showing previous results :)

When you say you are having hypos Lauren, I'm not quite sure what you mean? You're not on insulin or Glicazide are you? Not having a pop, just genuinely confused as unless sugar levels have dropped drastically, those with insulin resistance and type don't normally hypo (to my knowledge?) xx

I think she's just misinterpreting the difference between the symptoms of hypoglycemia (false hypos) and actual hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). It took me a while to understand the difference when I was first diagnosed too.

Hi Joshua

If your job like mine (HGV 1 Driver) depends on taking readings at least twice a day then your diabetic nurse will give you one and you can get your strips on prescription. Do not forget if you are a diabetic you have free prescriptions for the rest of your life, sad I know but true. Hope this helps.

Hi, this isn't actually the case, free prescriptions are only for those who are using medication to manage diabetes, those who control by diet do not receive them.

I got a meter from Aviva Accucheck website free of charge. You could try that. Found it easy to use. I am lucky living in Scotland as I get my strips free on prescription from my GP.

It is not OK to put used lancets/test strips/needles in the domestic rubbish most local councils will provide and collect sharps bins free of charge if yours does not put them in a strong lidded box such as a food storage box and take them to your gp and empty into their sharps bin at your next appointment.

Well, strangely enough I read this on a diabetes website and my DN backed it. We are talking of lancets not needles, the pin is very short and when bent down against the plastic and returned to the strip tub therere is no danger of anyone pricking themselves on it. I also run my strips under the tap which washes the testing blood out and that also goes in the rubbish, perfectly safe.

I bet CSI coukd still get a DNA match on it though. My GP organised a sharps box for me to use. I think we should try to act responsibly, and I do try to dipose of these items correctly. We should not advise Newbies to follow what is generally considered an unsafe practice, even if we personally follow different practices ourselves.
