2 months back, in annual checkup my HBA1C was 7.8 (61). So straight way I went on LCHF form next day. Today I did the HBA1c test. The results are very good i.e 5.7 (38.5). but the concern is about cholesterol levels which are high as per me.
Following are the results:
Total chol: 202 mg/dl or 5.224 mmol/l
Triglycerides: 218 mg/dl or 2.4 mmol/l
HDL Chol: 33 mg/dl or 0.85 mmol/l
LDL Chol: 125.4 mg/dl or 3.23 mmol/l
Chol/HDL ratio: 6.12

I fasted for 11 hours before taking above mentioned tests. I do only 2 LCHF meal per day.
My liver function test and kidney function test are normal.
I have grade 2 Fatty liver.

Kindly provide comments or suggestion for my Cholesterol results.

My comments are:
1) well done on getting your hba1c down as this is the highest risk to the health of your small and large blood vessels and you are doing this by LCHF meals.
https://www.cardiosmart.org/Tools/Cholesterol-Calculator should give you some pointers on your risk.
2) you have conditions associated with insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome i.e. fatty liver, low HDL relative to triglycerides. I don't know what your previous lipid readings were but if you have long standing metabolic problems (these things build up over 10+ years) it may take more time to decrease that insulin resistance but diet is the best way to do it since there are no medications to fix the condition.
3) a few people here have had a calcium scan to diagnose arterial disease if having a heart attack is your concern? Not sure where you are based but check out Ivor Cummins on You Tube for more information on that topic.

Thanks Nichole,
I am 34 year old and had high cholesterol last year too without trig and ldl numbers. I was on very high carb diet before diagnosis of high HBA1C.

I lost total 6 kgs since 2 months.
And all that lost weight is whats giving you a "high" cholesterol reading.

When you loose weight rapidly you break down fat and blood sends it round the body to were its needed. If you take a sample of blood while this is happening (i.e the last couple of months) its going to give you the false impression that you have high cholesterol. :bookworm:

Give it a couple of months you should see it settle down. ;)
:bag:

Any great change in diet will affect cholesterol levels.
Any ongoing weight loss will affect cholesterol levels.

One reading is not a trend, especially cholesterol. Get at least 3 more readings before deciding your cholesterol is actually staying high. Diabetics are prone to high cholesterol, so it is important to know.
You may need more help, including medication. Your change in diet and your weight loss is going to help.
Hang in there!

My understanding is your main target should be raising HLD (above 40 for men), and lowering triglycerides (ideal is under 70, good under 150).. Ways to raise HDL (many studies show) is stop smoking if you do. Proven methods are eat more saturated fats, and my personal favorite, regular exercise.

The triglycerides, I don’t know. You say they were not high before? Some studies do show them going up during weight loss, but nothing I’ve read is dramatic. Generally, high triglycerides are caused by high processed carbs (including fructose) eaten, particularly if eaten in conjunction with high fat. High fat alone is fine, but becomes a rocket launcher to high refined carbs, which on their own are still not good.

Personally, I would wait a few months and get it tested again.

Just a thought on this, sometimes 'high' cholesterol is down to your genes. It is in my case (confirmed by lipid cholesterol testing), nothing to do with my diet or anything else. I got fed up with my Doctor going on about not eating eggs(!) and telling me to stop eating 'saturated fat' even though I wasn't and all because mu cholesterol was 7.2 (HDL 2.4, trigs 0.5)! It's exactly like them guessing what type diabetes you have, do the flipping TEST.

Wow, that HDL : Trig is a great ratio. Well done !
