I spotted the General Manager of my local Waitrose as I went in today. So of course I buttonhole him to ask for low carb products. He was lovely and said nothing can be done before Christmas, but If I bring him some evidence after christmas, He'll pass it on to the buyers.
I would love to be able to but Dreamfields Pasta and Low carb crispbread without going to specialist shops and Da vinci Syrups without going on-line.
I plan to give him an Abstract of the Swedish and the Israeli low carb research.(With references to the whole papers)
Maybe one of the Geeks out there can set up a petition, which I could print?
I'd like to know what foods people want to be able to get too

People that feel just because diabates is a life-threatening "illness" it should be treated with kid gloves and nobody is allowed to have a laugh. My humour got me through abuse, near death experiences, serious and debilitating illnesses and lifelong pain and deformity - why give up the thing that works??
Hana, Dreamfields Pasta at supermarkets would just be the most excellent start!

I will have a look at an online petition resource over the next few days and find out how to set one up - it's probably easier than printing and circulating?

Go Jem, and more power to you Hana.

Waitrose have a good attitude I think. They're particularly interested in 'niche' markets :shock: and in locally made/sourced products. I've tried to interest them in my low-carb bread and they did seem quite positive about it. The only catch was that I had to get the packaging/bar coding/food licensing issues sorted out first.

However, a local artisan baker will hopefully begin making it in the new year and I'll try again then.

I love the Waitrose Christmas TV ad "How can I keep from singing?" I'd do all my shopping there,but the nearest branch is 1/2 hour's drive away.

This should give me a reason for the drive.

I'm easy walking distance from, A Coop, Waitrose, Tesco and Lidl. A longer walk will get me to Sainsbury's or Aldi. i confess to using the bus though, because I don't like to carry heavy stuff back

I miss Waitrose <sigh> always a cut above the others in quality and variety and the prices were never that bad.

Our local Co-Op is pretty decent but doesn't do Dreamfields, strangely a friend 30 miles away gets it in *her* local CoOp. I swap it for purple sprouting and asparagus <G>

Purple sprouting and asparagus are good too, but I haven't had pasta in over a year!

Never was keen on purple sprouting (probably cos my mum had a lot of success growing it one year and it's the vegetable we ate every day for several months!) but adore asparagus with passion :) hmmm lovely with butter! xxx

hana - have you tried contacting the nutrition dept of waitrose - they may have an influence as they oversee the specialist products such as gluten free breads etc.

We have the year pretty much covered here with locally grown stuff, purple sprouting leads to asparagus then to runner beans and by the time the bean season is ending the sprouting is back. Who needs pasta? I have it a couple of times a year.

Quinoa would be a good thing to add to the list if they don't already sell it, they've started stocking it in the Co-Op.
