Need some advice

Type of diabetes
Don't have diabetes
Treatment type
I do not have diabetes
I wanted some advice please. I had a migraine the other week and was very poorly so had to ring an ambulance. This was due to numbness which I do normally suffer with during a prodrome to migraine but normally I always get blurred vision but this time I didn’t so didn’t realise I was having a migraine. The ambulance crew did basic observations and my BM was 11. I had only had a salad sandwich all day and this was two or three hours earlier. I don’t have sugar or milk in my tea and I don’t have a sweet tooth. I have since bought a BM machine and my fasting blood sugars are always 6.5. An hour after food my Blood sugars are between 8.5 and 10. I eat late as my partner finishes work late. I’m on a diet of either fresh chicken or fish and boiled potatoes or rice and steam veg. I eat red meat once a week. I’ve cut out all junk food and coffee. I don’t smoke or drink. I’m not over weight for my height. I am on pregablin and I used to take anti psychotic meds two years ago for brief psychosis. So basically my question is if it’s worth getting my blood sugar checked properly? I’ve always had a feeling that my blood sugars drop suddenly or sudden intense hunger. When I’ve checked my blood sugar in the past they are always either low (2.5) or normal (5.5) but I always feel like they’re dropping if that makes sense? Anyway any advice would be good from those who have experience. Thank you

Hello there and welcome. We are not doctors so we cannot diagnose you. My advice is that you make an appointment with your GP and take all your notes on blood glucose with you. You could ask (or s/he may suggest) a test to determine if your levels are deranged. The test is the HbA1c.
To get a clearer picture for your doctor test your bg first thing after waking in the morning, test before the first bite of food in your meal then again two hours after your first bite. This will give your doctor much more info to work with.
FYI the difference between the two readings you take before and after eating should be no more than 2mmol. Taking random readings tells you little, I'm afraid.
Good luck.

Why this continued brainwashing and spreading of false myths?

Or will you please ask these as well to correct their website next to hundreds of other non-profit medical professional websites who confirm both boiled potatoes and rice as recommended food for diabetics???
www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/myths/
that link doesnt differentiate between type 1 safe foods, and type 2 safe foods. The two conditions have a different treatment regime and many of us have to control our Type 2 diabetes by diet, which mean reducing or, if necessary, cutting out some carbohydrates.

That link info is typical of the poor ways that site communicates about diabetes without taking into account the different types of diabetes around.

that is why @NewTD2 specified, correctly, that his info was for type 2 diabetics. We have already ascertained that the OP is not on any meds which may influence their carb intake.

And now good sir you are joining this conspiracy!

NewTD2 did exactly NOT specify in his original post that his recommendation was for type 2 diabetes!
He has just edited that, after the fact! As you very well could read as 'hard copy of his statement' in my reply back to him...

I start to be really tired and sad about this continued manipulation we at times are being abused by on this forum!

Thanks my friend, for at least correcting your own wrong statement in your previous post!
You low carbers are tough at times making life here rather difficult for others.
Just saying, as familiar with many good T1s that for that reason have left this forum...

Do you have diabetes or are you Pre-diabetic?

Boiled potatoes and rice are not recommended for T2 diabetics.

I’ve not been diagnosed with anything I’m at the advanced practitioner tomorrow and was thinking of getting a test. But I’m wondering if it’s worth asking. I also had symptoms of diabetes during early pregnancy. I just would not want to waste anyone’s time having it done and I’m slightly needle phobic (really needle phobic) ha.

You won't be wasting anyone's time. Given what you have said, I agree, you should ask to be tested. Good luck

I had 40 years of feeling absolutely rotten when eating a diet as advised by doctors - lots of rice and potatoes and pasta, starchy vegetables wholemeal bread - low energy rapid weight gain, emotional wreck - pre eclampsia in pregnancy poor recovery from any slight injury or illness - always at death's door when I caught a cold in midwinter, which went to tonsillitis and bronchitis, several times trachaeitus - as soon as I went back to low carbs I began to recover.
Actually - I used to get really bad migraines too - my first husband used to steal the medication I was given for it - there was never any left when I needed it, and the doctor refused to keep prescribing it. I'd forgotten about that, but I was talking about phenobarbitone to someone the other day - and it jogged my memory.
The doctors would never believe me about my sensitivity to carbs - I have seen them red faced and yelling, spitting and stammering in fury at my protestations. I have been threatened with being put in hospital and 'fed properly' if I did not stop doing Atkins.
From my personal experience I'd not recommend a 'normal' diet to anyone, diabetic or not.
My sister who always sided with the doctors is now almost as round as she is tall and bemoans her inability to lose weight even eating as low calorie as she can manage without going weak and feeble.

Nonsense highlight one instance where you have been abused and you have reported it to a moderator and had your complaint upheld, where as I find it highly abusive to be accused of being part of some sort of a conspiracy.

Ladies and gentlemen, bickering is not required on this thread. Those who want to bicker, feel free to do so by PM or raise a report.

Thank you..

Thank you I will do this and show the advanced practitioner tomorrow. Hopefully it’s just my diet causing it or stress. Or I’m just testing at the wrong time. I was out shopping with my children and they had a macdonalds so I had a small jacket potato with cheese and beans and a tea no milk or sugar. Three hours later when I got home it was 7 so that’s good but I’ve no idea what it was earlier as I was out doing the school run.

And this I have. Yes...
PM'ed the moderators directly who were so kind to support a fair arrangement to settle the cases.

PS: Did not accuse you of anything, so not sure where that comes from.

I believe 7 is too high 3 hours after eating for someone who is not diabetic. Good luck with the doctor.

That would depend on the pre prandial reading and the food/drink taken.
