Im hoping for some advice. I take Gabapentin thee times a day for Neuropathy. I get breakthrough pain on a semiregular basis anything from 2 to 5 times a week. I was taking paracetamol and ibuprofen which took the edge off. I'm also Asthmatic and was told off for doing this as ibuprofen can trigger asthma attacks. I was told to take cocodomol which I did. I woke up in a&e. Im extremely allergic to morphine apparently cocodomol metabalises into morphine. Who knew! Any suggestions as to what painkillers I can now take?

Sorry, no help, but just want to show sympathy. I know how it is to have a problem with opiates, though in my case it's just that they have no pain reduction effect on me. I had noticed that OTC opiate analgesics had no effect compared to aspirin, ibuprofen and paracetamol, but it was only when I was in hospital that I realised the full extent. They gave me morphine to control my pain and it did nothing. It took 2 days before I could convince them, but only a day or so before discharge they found something else which worked for me. I don't remember if they told me what it was.

Hi @cmt222

Asthmatic here too, so good to know.

Asthmatic since 11 came on at 11 - 22.
Then faded, came back with a vengeance at late 30's.

Suffered until I got T2D DX
Not sure if it helps others ...but I was 3 months in to lchf when other half mentions i don't cough in mornings like I used to...mmhh

She was rights ...lchf seemed to put the asthma into remission.

I still get the odd day, but nowhere near what I was suffering .

As to pain relief .

A bad RTA left me in hospital various broken bones requiring intensive surgery .

Morphine helping the pain in leg and hand, but leaving me screaming at the pain In broken shoulder.

4 days before they DX it as a damaged bursal sac, and prescribe amitriptyline.

Pain eases on taking tablets .

Might be worth investigating.

Or

RTA caused PTSD & lots of anxiety.
cue psychiatrist prescribing duloxatine.

Relieved some of the anxiety but oddly enough I was getting lots of daily pain in damaged leg
(Quite invasive surgery and clearly lots of nerve damage caused by multiple breakages & surgery )

The duloxatine eased a lot of that pain away

Caution is it does come with some significant side effects. (Constipation, pre vomit bile & excessive yawning, loss of libido amongst many others)
But they seem limited to a 3 - 4 week window.

In my case a decent trade off to be anywhere near a normal mindset .

Another one worthy of consideration, imho

Sorry, I never found any pain relief that worked with my peripheral neuropathy. I had naproxen for gout pain (which it handles very well) and had expected it to do something about the stabbing and burning neuropathy pains. Totally ineffective.

The pain went of its own accord with lowered BGs, so that's all I can recommend.
