Neuropathy - question

Good afternoon all, I am a type 2 diabetic with very problematic neuropathy in my feet and lower legs. I now have a constant limp and at night, when I lie down, the pain and discomfort is awful. I take amitriptyline nightly and this puts me to sleep but does not necessarily keep me asleep so the pain throughout the night is constant and varies in severity. If I do not take my amitriptyline, then I with either not sleep at all or if I fall asleep, I have breakthrough pain which results in bad nightmares of either being bitten by sharks or a truck driving over my feet and legs.
Is there anything that you have tried or can recommend to provide some additional support and to reduce the pain and discomfort. the pain varies between feet at any given time, in my toes, feet or lower legs. I was hoping that I could find some way to relieve this pain without further medication - feet supports, ankle supports/straps etc.
Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Are you eating low carb , or even keto? Reducing your blood sugars may help lower the pain at source.
I found for cramps and odd nerve pain that taking a supplement of magnesium citrate helped, but I should state I don't have neuropathy so may be up completely the wrong track

I can't recommend anything other than Lyrica which takes the edge off the pain for me, but it's still severe at times. It's a horrible pain, unlike anything else, so I hope you can find some relief from it.

Mine reduced by 95% after getting my BGs back in normal range. It used to be as you describe yours. Now it's a tingle or "heat" at worst - like when your feet have been cold and then warm up.

How long have you had this issue? Did it come on gradually, or all at once? How is your control?
For me, the burning pain in my feet came on suddenly AFTER I got my glucose levels back to a normal range. It's been two and half years now and my feet are better. They were pretty painful the first few months, and then gradually got better. They are far from 100 percent, but much better than before now. It takes time, but based on other stories of recovery here don't give up hope!

Had similar issues not long after diagnosis. Eye watering pain at night. Brutal, toe curling cramps. Burning. Throbbing. Stabbing pains like someone was jabbing a knife into the soles of my feet. I fixed it eventually with a whole food, ketogenic, grain-free diet that I maintain to this day. I vaped raw cannabis herb in the evening which provided much welcome pain relief. Of course that may not suit everyone and is illegal in most jurisdictions but personally I’d prefer it over pharmaceuticals. Some say CBD oil offers similar benefits but I couldn’t speak to that.

Good luck. I literally feel (felt) your pain.

@Caprock94 sane for me. My pain only materialised after I began to normalise my glucose levels somewhat.
