Oops, my mistake! Still... You did the right thing not getting new glasses.
And yeah, I see where it would be a dining-nightmare, though after a while you get the hang of it. And hey, you guys could do what my husband and I do... Normally I'd ask for extra salad instead of fries. But my husband's not adverse to eating my fries, -far, far from it- and I gladly take his salad, which he usually doesn't touch anyway. It's not exactly "done" to switch plates when eating out, but whatever works. And I don't mind making him spuds and just having some extra veggies/meat myself. And sometimes I have a tiny bite of his dessert, just for the taste. There's loads of work-arounds, just takes some getting used to. Perk being, you both fully understand the role of carbs in one another's diet... That makes it less of a chore.
