As the thread title says new here so wanted to say hi. I have type 2 diabetes and am looking forward to reading the advice of many.

Was diagnosed about two years ago and being treated by tablets and diet. I take the following tablets Metformin, Sitagliptin and Glicazide. My sugar levels are continually high so I need to watch my intake of sugar products. Was put on Glicazide about 5 months ago and so far seems to be doing the trick as it apparently forces down the sugar level. Desperately trying to lose weight as I am a little overweight.

Look forward to peering through the various parts of the forum

Welcome to the forum Ruler :)

Welcome to the forum :-) Good luck with the weight loss. There are some good threads here regarding food and exercise or if you have any questions, please ask.

Hi and welcome. You are on the same tablets I was on before insulin. If you pursue a low-carb diet you should be able to lose both weight and some of that blood sugar. Gliclazide works by stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin but as you say you have some weight to lose you will probably have some insulin resistance which will work against the Gliclazide to some extent. Do try to reduce the weight thru low-carbing and you may find the Glic is no longer needed or can be reduced?

Hi Ruler and welcome to the forum. If there is anything you want to know, just ask and someone will be able to help you.

Hi Ruler, and welcome. There is a lot of material here that should be helpful to you.

One thing to point out is that it isn't only sugar products you should be wary of. All carbohydrates get converted into blood glucose eventually, except fibre. A slice of white bread, a quarter of a cup of cooked white rice, and three teaspoons of sugar all have about 12 grams of quickly converted carbs, and on me they all have almost exactly the same effect.

Your experience may vary, but it's important to look at the whole picture. I can tell you however that the effort it requires is worth it.
