I must say that I like the new layout. I think the related posts underneath the topics are a great idea.
Bet some people will be getting an avatar soon.

Re: New Layout.

well on my last post I seemed to have a stegosaurus, he was quite cute :D
Last time I looked for a copyright free phoenix I couldn't find one I liked.

Edit: well I found one, not sure I like it though!

Re: New Layout.

I just started a new thread about the avatars somewhere else.

Maybe someone who knows how to create them could let the techno-wimps like me how to do it? Though I'd really prefer not to have one at all!

Re: New Layout.

I have just added a personal avatar Viv, the mammoth/giraffe/dinosaur that I saw when I refreshed the page gave me quite a turn!

Does anyone know who is dealing with admin and technical issues on the forum, I have sent a PM about something days ago but there hasn't been a response yet?

EDIT-Admin online now, will try and make contact.

Re: New Layout.

Hiya, I actually love the new layout, its easier to find more info on relevant topics n subjects. :D I want one of the avatars too, have actually tried to load one onto my page without success. Am no wizard tho on the computer, n would appreciate if someone could explain [teach] me HOW to do this. In step by step way? Anna.x

Re: New Layout.

Hi Anna - glad you like the new layout! We thought it was a good idea to put similar topics in the forum as it can be quite useful.

Also, there was a mixed reaction to the avatars, so we took the random avatars option off - basically it just added a random avatar for people who had no avatar. What we could do instead, is make a page where there is a list of avatars people can choose from it they don't have their own?

Also, some people may have noticed, we've started to link in the top 10 forum threads, the latest forum threads and relevant forum threads in the content + guides on Diabetes.co.uk. We want the forum to become an integral part of the site as the forum discussion is really helpful.

We'll be adding a few more features in, too - such as improved RSS feed, favicon for the forum (think that may already be in), a text ad for the site after the first forum post. If there's anything that people like/don't like or want to see, we definitely want to hear it!

The related post addition is poorly thought out and or implemented.
It merely links words in the title however inappropriate the resulting link may be!
Linking problems with a child's problems starting school with jokes!! and linking blackened toes with black pudding!! This is a hurt waiting to happen! Rethink time I think.

Hiya, mr administrator, well I LIKE it all, have found it a great help n easier to find my way to relevant posts etc n would love more help n avatars to choose from, its thoughtful of you to set up these easier to do link up's for us newbies to have easier access to more information n knowledge to glean n learn as we go along. Many thanks am really grateful for the adaptions you have and are making to this brilliant forum. Anna.x :D

Hi guys,

We're introducing (right now!) some links after the first forum post - this is for stuff within the site and forum. Just giving everyone a heads up as we test to see if it beds in OK.

Fergus - the indexing for the site uses keywords and it'll take time to get the similar topics absolutely precise - in our testing it seems to bring up related topics where there is a large density of posts on a particular thread.

Anna - I'm glad you like the changes. Onwards and upwards, as they say - currently working on some 'how to' guides for adding avatars, PMing, etc, too.

liking all the changes - the latest one - not so much :( - makes it look like a commercial site with adverts scattered everywhere - I know they're not ads but they look like ads and think they detract from the opening post - also if the post is of a sensative nature could be counterproductive - but other than that loving the changes :D

Glad you're liking them. Tried to make the text links a little more user-friendly by having an icon explaining what it is and linking to the bulk of the site. We'll investigate how they can be switched on/off depending on posts/post nature.

Agree with this, the banner inbetween the initial post I don't like. Could that not be relocated?

They behave like ads as well as adblock blocks them HINT
