On a different NHS based forum, I've received the following news from someone regarding new lower cost test strips becoming available next month:

From May 1 2009, there will be a lower cost blood glucose testing option for people in your situation. Glucoflex-R will be listed at approximately half the price of other test strips on the UK Drug Tariff. See www.betachek.com for details (products/Glucoflex): http://www.betachek.com/new_glucoflex.htm

Anyone know anything about this product?

It is an Australian site wally.
Cannot seem to find the price anywhere. Any ideas?

Catherine.

Hi wally.

The second link you have posted seems to show the strips.
They are used in much the same way as Ketostix except using a sample of blood and compared against a coloured scale. Not as accurate (if one can say that ?) as your meter I would think ?
They are certainly not yet listed in the BNF so as Catherine says, they appear to be an Australian product not yet available here.

Hope that helps.

Hi Catherine,

I've asked for more details on pricing. I'll post the answer when I get one.

Best Wishes - John

Thanks for that wally.

Regards,
Catherine.
P.S. I do know that it is a Roche product and was being evaluated here as far back as 2002.

Thankyou for the warning Sandy,

Dan

Hi dan
No problem,
We are all the same here looking for answers and questions. if we all work as a team, then things will end up getting better!
This is a great forum.

Both the links provided are for the Australian Company. They are useful in showing the particular product and how it works.

We are in the process of trying to get a link from the UK distributors at the moment. When it is forthcoming it may well be posted here. It is very new to the UK.

Thanks for that Linsey.

That link is still only to a flyer about the product which is very useful.

However, it still does not yet let you purchase the product or give details of UK retailers. It is supposed to be available on prescription but is not yet listed in the BNF as far I can make out. The price is around £15 for 50 strips, but there is a special offer at half price. If you can find where to purchase it.

I am in touch with the owner/ distributor Patrick and he has assured me that a fully operational UK link will be passed to me in a few days which I will post here and also in the Diabetes Product section here.

Hope that helps.

Yes - I've heard from Patrick too and I have an email address for him. His reply is as follows:

I represent the uk executive distributor for Glucoflex-R in the united kingdom.

The UK website is the following: http://uk.betachek.com

If you are looking to get Glucoflex-R please ask your doctor to prescribe this for you (which you are entitled to) failing that if you speak to your local pharmacist they will be able to supply you this over the counter.

Don't know how interesting this product might be.
John

Thanks for that John.

The link you have is the one I too have been sent but was waiting for confirmation from Patrick before posting here after checking with Administrator, rules see !

I have had to edit your post somewhat because of this. Sorry. :(

The site is being continually updated and may well change over time.

Checked with Patrick, this is the most up to date version.

Hi Ken - I don't understand that!

Might be as well that you explain so that I don't make the same mistake again.

Hi John.

Admin have rules regarding the posting of Commercial links, Company Addresses etc and also e-mail details. That is why your post was edited. There is no problem with the link to the site where those self same details are available. We have to abide by the rules.

There is now a full review available in the Diabetes Product Review Forum with all the details as allowed. Hope this helps. You can PM me for any further clarification.

Ken.
