Hi, ive been T2 since 1998 with BS (daily) in the 7 to 10 range but recent it has risen, and on the 12 week "long term" blood test it has gon up from 7 to 8, so the clinic warned me insulin could be looming, im a taxi driver and my badge could be lost if i went on Insulin SO......change of diet and hit the gym 4 times a week (soon to be 3 gym + 3 swims) but i have a problem with my feet, specifically the underside........it feels like im always walking on cobblestones, making some exercise difficult (treadmills for one), my clinic said this would fade if my BS and weight fell but ive lost about 10lb in 5 weeks with no change to my feet, any ideas?...

I didnt have this problem till about 2 years ago

Im 60 in feb, 6ft tall and 18st 2lb now

cheers

id add the clinic had the ultrasound on my feet and blood flow is fine

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Well done on the dietary changes you have made, your new exercise regime and your weight loss. As someone with diabetes you have the right to be seen by a Podiatrist who will examine your feet and advise accordingly, you can get your gp to refer you or self-refer yourself.

Hi, well done on the exercise and diet, hope it works out for you. I actually went to the dr's with similar pains in the feet and that is how I was diagnosed. I was given Gabapentine to relieve the pain, but still hurts to walkDon't be alarmed but it could and I reiterate could be diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage) which is what I have been diagnosed as having. Are you getting pain in the feet apart from when walking or numbness. If so see you GP or a podiatrist who will check the feeling in your feet. Good Luck

Hi Jack, welcome. It's never too late to make positive changes to improve your BS, and well done for grabbing this by the scruff of the neck. By diet changes I am assuming you are reducing carbohydrates? If your HbA1c has gone up to 8%, that's too high and needs to come down as I think you realise. Get it down and you can not only avoid insulin but maybe reduce other meds as well in time. What else are you on?

Are your feet dry and don't sweat? A good moisturising cream could help in this situation.

Hi, im on 4 x 500mg of Metformin and a Janavia/sitagliptin x 1 per day

also due to blood pressure, cholesterol and a blocked artery, 1 asprin, 1 astorvastatin, 1 amplodipine and a bisopol fulmariate

i think the spellings are wrong...lol

I was pleased to get a BS reading of 5.4 at my assessment for my hospital procedure today (1pm) after no food since 8am, but after the op (3pm) it was 7.2.....strange

I have problems with my feet which are entirely due to heart related drugs. Having dropped the simvastatin in favour of atorvastatin has made an improvement but the ace inhibitors, which have the most beneficial effect for me, cause a permanent tingling.

I also developed arthritis in my ankle because I was carrying too much weight and a tendon connecting my big toe came loose. How on earth was I to loose any weight?

From being in a terrible state I can now cycle for a couple of hours even though walking aruond the house and garden still causes a lot of discomfort for me. Other than cycling, I use a rowing machine and if I could, I'd swim every day.

I too have good circulation in my feet but I need to exercise with these low impact systems. Swimming, cycling, rowing are all very very good. I can now walk in the mountains with the aid of trekking sticks, but I suffer afterwards. Swimming, rowing and cycling just leave me pleasantly knackered and ready to sit back and watch TV without being in agony. Swap the treadmill for a bike or rower.

Oh, and have a look at Cosyfeet and pamper the little blighters. Make 'em feel like you care about them. Nice slippers, looser socks, a bit of moisturiser, washing on warm soapy water, all that sort of nonsense seems to make em feel better.

That's not bad at all. Your bloods are up and down all the time even if you don't eat. Your body needs to be within a certain range. If you were 5.4 at 8am and didn't eat until 3 pm, your BG will have dropped down to below 4.0 and your body has topped up your supply by creating its own from stores. It does this to stop you going into a coma. 7.2 is not bad at all. Some T2s are in the teens when this happens.

I cant ride a normal exercise bike (hurts my rear and back), or use the treadmill (feet) but ive found salvation with the recumbent bike, 100 minutes flat out with lever 3 resistance and some fast tunes on the headphones and im lathered (George Thorogood and Jerry lee lewis i thank you)

i do a small amount of machine work (weights) and a 15 minute sauna too

Hi Jack I too have the feeling I am walking on things that are not there. Could you give us an idea of what you might eat on a typical day?
