Hi still finding my way with T2 and LCHF a couple of questions
Fruit is it OK? And are there any baddies to watch out for?
Mayo is this OK I can see that salad cream looks like a no-no? And how much Mayo is allowed?
Thank you all in advance x

Hi,

All fruit contains sugar. The better ones are berries, particularly raspberries and strawberries, but in rather small quantities and eaten with fat such as cream or full fat yogurt as part of a meal, not as a stand-alone snack. Some people can eat a small apple - a meter will tell you if you can. The definite sweet ones are mainly the tropical ones, and bananas should be avoided.

Hellmans Real Mayo has zero carbs so you can eat as much as you like. I do. If you buy another brand, have a look at the nutrition label for total carbs. Some are higher than others.

Hi @greengirl, I believe you should test to see how you react to the amount of berries you can tolerate. I stuff myself as below on the right (thought I would include the nuts and berries I combine as well) with a full large punnet size of raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and redcurrants:

This is later sometimes further added to by a large wine glass full of Greek yogurt with the same berries, nuts, seeds, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and flax seeds. Berries are not that high in carbs and have brilliant inflammation reduction properties, which is one of the things we need to reduce as type 2's.

I buy frozen fruit - looking for the lower values, mixed berries, blackberries, and have about half a cup full with cream. Once in a while I get a melon, which is quite low carb, and I get the packs of large grapes from Lidl, as they are not so sweet as the smaller grapes. They show as lower on the meter, and I try to limit them but I normally limit foods to those under 10 percent.
I used to eat a lot of fruit, we have apple trees, gooseberries, and rhubarb in the garden, I hope to be able to tolerate more, but if not - well - the birds have been very happy this winter, eating the apples.
